  1. Has anyone any experience with these bifacial solar panels ? https://www.bimblesolar.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=2542
  2. Yes I have seen similar elsewhere however the op was on about temporarily moving the panels to the cabin side for short periods which I would envisage being a great faff fir little gain.
  3. To be honest I was just having a stab at being polite, wondered what it would be like.
  4. I have already made that point in a previous post and the op conceded that on balance it was probably correct. I believe the op has accepted that the original post was flawed. I actually have no problem with postings that are put up to get shot down as sometimes they can be productive.
  5. Looks like from the above the op has already conceeded that his original objectives are not achievable. Hopefully the op has taken on board some of the comments, the on topic ones at least, made so far. The op should by now have inkling that they have quite a lot to learn about narrowboats and narrowboating. Some bullet points that may help the op .I recall that a reply has been given that you can't just occasionally hang 4kw of solar off the side of the boat without there bring significant ballasting problems. I would add to this that i think it would be totally impractical anyway. Filling the roof totally with solar panels creates a set of problems if traveling alone. I envisage difficulties doing locks solo if access to the roof is blocked, the op should in time begin to understand this point. Also a completely full roof would make the use of double ropes or even a single topevdifficult to use, again the op should eventually with experience understand this point. Hopefully the op has now sone understanding of why their original post is fundamentaly flawed. Hopefully the op will take the comments on board and have a good old mull over them.
  6. My installation notes, long since list, stated that before disconnecting the solar charger from the batteries the solar panels must be disconnected from the charger first. Only after disconnecting from the solar panels should the battery connections be broken Basic Internet search will confirm this rule and in some cases explain why. So always disconnect solar panels first I do mine via blade fusesl
  7. Well that certainly one of most respected and technical competent members well and truly told. I think I will just get myself some popcorn and sit this one out.
  8. O.k So we have now established that you will not be applying your theories and applications to a narrowboat but to a static residence that may occasionally move. This makes your original post redundant. However if you do have access to resources and are willing to spend time on money on research which may INCIDENTALLY benefit us narrowboating dinosaurs then all well and good but, and it is a big but, your original post is fundamentaly flawed in that you are designing for a static residence and not a narrowboat. Personally I would scrap this post altogether and repost with a clearer one.
  9. So you will be on a NARROWBOAT? You intend to have 4Kw on a Narrowboat roof? Do you envisage any solo travel where you may need to use the roof in locks? It will be permanently moored on a south-facing site? You don't envisage any travelling? Panels will be permanently set to 30 degrees? Basically have you given any thought to hiw you intend to use the narrowboat in the future? At the moment you may as well be designing a static home.
  10. Just had a thought why not set up either a chess ladder or a chess club in the virtual Pub? Info on setting up a virtual club on lichess here https://lichess.org/blog/XnEFmRAAAB4A7WU7/running-your-chess-club-online Or maybe just a simple chess ladder on a sticky thread? Needs someone who is willing to spend a little time on setting it up and running it. I am ruling myself out by the way. If set up correctly there shoukd be ni reason why members couldn't arrange to play games in person occasionally rather than just playing virtual. Just random thoughts.
  11. I play on Lichess app, started earlier this year after a long absence. Absolute rubbish at it now, can't remember Any of the openings, make stupid mistakes and constantly loose games I should of won. Still enjoy it though.
  12. I wish you well please let me know how you get on. You could possibly go some way to achieving that on a decent summers day but have you done your solar calculations for winter time or even overcast days? And please don't keep confuse practical experience or advice as naysaying.
  13. When I wired my boat 14-16 years ago these were the resources I used extensively. I always appreciated your having made them freely available at the time and also your ongoing commitment to helping others on here. The OP maybe does not yet realise the, yet again, generous offer you gave just made to assist a forum member.
  14. Zinger my boat and didn't fit anodes. Checked after 5+ years and found anodes were not needed. I have had 4 anodes sitting in my locker just in case they may of been needed these are now redundant as far as I am concerned, looks like I may have to release them into the community.
  15. Info only. Whilst looking for general Webasto thermo top info I came across this decent disassembly video, not sure if it has been posted before but I found it interesting. https://www.westtechmobile.com/blog/3-reasons-your-webasto-thermo-top-c-is-failing
  16. What he said. If you have double doors and intend to fit yale locks in the middle of them then I would suggest you rethink as it takes precisely 0.721 seconds to open the doors when supposedly locked. Deadbolts top and bottom are the only way I found to give a securely locked door.
  17. Could I ask how successful this has been? I am now to old and decrepit to crawl into my water tank so am now looking at a more permanent solution to my tank blacking. Previously I have done it myself every 2 to 3 years but if I tried to crawl into the tank now there is a very strong likely hood that I might have to stay in it.
  18. Playstore app I use. UK Arial Alignment Only rated 3.9 and not maintained since Jan 2017 but I still find the map function very useful, in fact I only really use the map function. Most of the complaints are about orientation but it is not difficult to manually orientate the map Must admit I have had little success with the moonraker despite giving it a number of chances. Had 3 in total and 2 of them failed after a few months and the 3rd, which was a spare body, just didn't work.
  19. Tried multiple aerials over the years and should of just stuck to a bog standard cheepo. If you have line of sight you have line of sight, simples! ... https://www.screwfix.com/p/labgear-log-periodic-aerial/67576?kpid=67576&ds_kid=92700055281954487&ds_rl=1249401&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1bzHraGj8wIVCRl7Ch2wJAS_EAQYASABEgIvDfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
