  1. Dont get me started you know what I'm like everything from the steel to the sump is british on this boat as much as I love Britain and the Brits they over charge to the hilts, and make out that having a trade is a licence to print money, we are giving a chance for real craftsmen to use their skills show off their skills and make a living doing it, Political I know, and I dont really do politics, unfortunatley this is the world we now live in, British craftsmen do not want to pay to train their fellow youngsters for an apprentiship, unless Government give em the money. ...... End Of "well I dont want it to turn nasty" I may need your help next week

  5. Hello we have the most wonderful wooden shutters on our lovely Amber boat which actually won best boat builder ( the Lionel Munk Prize) for best boatbuilder award at the IWA on bank holiday monday ,I would put up a picture but none of the miserable gits on this site would tell me how to do it, and I have asked loads of times, I find it all a bit cliquey actually, so unless I get some decent replies I,m not coming on here anymore, anyone got any tips for more friendly sites ?

  10. we being a newish boaters( now been at it for 2 months) would have thought that it was quite within reason to moor at a water point at that time of night 11.00ish or maybe after dark, however when we were in Great Heywood the other night, we were moored at the moorings before the lock at great heywood and took a stroll with our rubbish and the dogs to the bins and to check out where the water point was, there was someone moored at the point, we thought nothing of it, but they were still there at 9.00am the next day, so when we went for water, we had to wait for someone to move, then when we were on the waterpoint, they still carried on having breakfast, I asked the lady if she was moving soon because another boat was waiting and she said ooh I cant my husbands gone shopping !!! whatever next I think this is definatley taking a liberty but you dont like to say so when your new

  13. Well O.K then I wont get emotionally involved, but should I report it to the Fashion Police as it was wearing a mink coat ?
  14. I would just like to add that last Thursday we were coming to the last but one lock before the Dog and Doublet pub on the Birmingham Fazeley canal, heading for Tamworth, I was opening the lock and this Mink just strolled across it without so much as a by your leave, he was carrying his lunch, one of our little woodland creatures I couldn't identify the poor little mite as I was so shocked at the sheer cheek of this mink, It didn't appear the least bit scared of me,although it was very beautiful to look at I know the damage they cause, and wondered if I should report it to anyone ?
  15. I just like waking you up Allan, I here yours ears pricking up when I add a line , keeps you on your toes its so that we know you old lads are still with us

  17. While you are on licences just thought I would let you know a BW official came around Knowle today and here we were sunbathing with out a Licence, and we told him its in the post a likely story !! we could see the gleam in his eye as he had caught us crooks, but a quick check with head office told him our Licence had been issued but we dont have it yet Phew its scary on these canals
  18. Hope this is the right place for this request, does anyone know how I can get hold of the Artist Will Jones, we need some foxgloves painting on our boat as someone called it a Heart drug the other day, now I do know that the heart drug digoxin is derived from the digitalis (foxglove plant) so instead of keep explaining that we are the Foxglove, not that we mind and I know you will ask why we didn't just call it Foxglove, well we wanted to be different, but when you here people going buy saying things like ooooh thats a heart drug, or ooohh thats poisen, Well anyway I saw this boat with some exquisite flowers painted on it and they said the Artist was a Will Jones from around Hanbury Wharf or smewhere does anyone have a contact number or anything ? Thanks very much
  19. Didnt see this until today you cheeky old scallywag and that carlt too, just as cheeky Well anyway we have been at it now for over a month!! if you know what I mean lads, and we are still lovin it,just got to knowle its delightful the side hatch is still open and its gorgeous out here, on our way to Hopwas to travel the canal we have walked so often, so dont come a knockin when the boats a rockin
  20. The Fridge or the Contents ? I have done the latter
  21. So after reading this thread, are we allowed to fish them out and eat them ?
  22. Hello and Welcome to the water,we are still waiting for our BW Licence, we have been on a month now but they have our cheque so we are not worried, if any one asks its in the post !!! not that they have. But dont forget the extra's which we hadn't really looked in to, buying our boat from Evesham Worcestershire meant we were on the Upper Avon which is a seperate licence so to travel down to Tewkesbury we had a £50.00 upper and Lower Avon licence for two weeks, that ran out as we stayed at Amber boats marina whilst I went for a hospital appt, so then we had to get another £32.00 Licence for the upper Avon two Weeks to travel up to the bw Stratford Canal, well worth it though the whole of the river is gorgeous, not that we mind paying as at least we had something to stick on the windows and didn't look like those folk they are always talking about on this forum but thats a message to you, now for us are there other, waterways that need seperate Licences that we will come across doing the whole system ?
  23. Hi Richard We have been living on our boat for a month now, our 14 year old Terrier Type thing Giggsy, and Rio the 5 year old terrier type thing, they had never been on a boat before but they have taken on the role of real boat dogs, ( you know the type you see, stood on the back deck as close to the edge as they can) well they have taken to it really well. Giggsy the old boy has fallen in twice, first time he could see the ducks feet that appeared to be walking to him, and not swimming so he must have thought he would have some of that and in he went, luckily we were there with him and scooped him out, the second time whilst we were moored he put his front paws on the bank and his back ones were still on the boat, it doesn't take much weight to move a big boat and he collapsed in the middle again we were there to rescue him, non the worse for it. we always put them inside whilst going through locks so that they are safe. as we have no carpets on the boat there is no smell, we have special foldaway kennels that they sleep in on the boat, and are out all day for them to go in and out as they please when we are moored up. we always clean up the dog poo after them , What responsible dog owner wouldn't ? I would welcome anyone on our boat in the knowledge that it does not stink of dogs, only today and yesterday and the day before,as they have just been for a walk in the pooring rain and they stink of wet dog, which as soon as they dry and they are aired again that will be gone and wont cling in the boat as I said before we have no carpets or curtains, we have Blinds, so no soft furnishings for the stink to cling to, so have your dogs on board they'll love it as much as you will. and soon it will stop raining and then it will be even better I would put up the pictures of the boys but cant manage on here but you can check them out at www.digitalis.org.uk we have other forum readers its wonderful
  24. We have been at it now for 21 days now, and are absolutley loving it too, we have seen a Moorhen who had nested on the back of a boat we were next to, at Tewkesbury Marina and her chicks, then along the way to Stratford where we are now, baby deers, Kingfishers, ducklings, cygnets and loads more I cant wait for what else is to come, oh yes there is also the (RSGC ) Royal shakespeare Goose Chasing boat, they seem to go up and down the river with a sheep dog up front chasing the geese away and then we see all of them come back again and the same happens again, whats all this about ? However I do have a problem (should we go to the problem page?) we keep drinking with the new neighbours whenever we get chatting and I have drunk more in the last few weeks than ever before is this a good thing or what ? should we seek help or is this normal ?
