  1. Thanks Tony, all done now, yes 2 person job pull/lift lower seat whilst pushing back!
  2. This was aquired 20 years ago and very little used, we are now trying to drop the back to use as a bed for a Christmas guest and are struggling to see how to do so. I had assumed it was a click clack or similar - lift and pull back but nothing seems to work - dont know if our technique is wrong or if it is broken. has anyone got one and care to share the technique. Thanks;
  3. Latest update from Vie Fluvial on facebook, machine translation Continuation of the Müden lock First "emergency" settlement expected after the accident of Müden on the Moselle on Monday, December 15. Nothing works on the Moselle anymore. After an accident, 70 boats are waiting to continue their journey. The state now wants to help boaters get out of the blocked waterway. TREIS CARDS / TIRED. After the serious navigation accident in the Müden lock, the first blocked boat could pass the breakdown work on Monday. "This is something completely new for us," says Albert Schöpflin, President of the Waterways and Navigation Authority (WSA) Mosel-Saar-Lahn. "This means that we will have tryouts this weekend. "Only then will we confirm if the basins can really start on Monday. Navigation on the Moselle has been paralyzed since Sunday. During a collision of a wrecker with the lower gates of the Müden lock, they were severely damaged. Because of this unemployment, about 70 boats are stuck. Experts say it may have to wait until the end of March 2025 for the new doors to be installed. How does an emergency lock work ? "In principle, the boat is locked in the same way as before, but without the normal lock door," explains Schöpflin. Usually with a lock intact, it takes about 20-30 minutes. But now everything is different because of the damaged doors. "If what we're planning to do works, it's going to take another one or two hours." However, there is no other possible alternative. Meanwhile, the office is working on replacing damaged lock doors. During the visit of Prime Minister Alexander Schweitzer (SPD) and Transport Minister Daniela Schmitt (PLR), they gathered on the grounds of the lock New door coming in by boat "We are already preparing the objective of the replacement in the construction site of Trèves," explains M. Creator. Pipes and other important components should now be built there. The doors are then transported by boat to the lock. "Then we'll dry the whole room again to install them. » Solidarity is great: Luxembourgish and French colleagues have already offered their help to the staff, and Dillinger Hütte (steel factory) will produce steel parts starting next week, Schöpflin said. Work is in full swing on the construction site, even during the holidays. "We work around the clock," he said. "For the time being, I plan to exclude Christmas Eve. People need to stay home out there. But at Christmas the boatmen will certainly still be locked down, he thinks. Sunday no driving and special permits The government of the Land of Rhénanie-Palatinate wants to ease the ban on driving on Sundays as a support. “It was announced today that Sunday’s trucking ban will be suspended in order to move goods and boat goods to the road and rail,” Schmitt said during his visit with Schweitzer at the lock. The regulation is intended to affect trucks transporting goods that would have otherwise crossed the Moselle, he said. The duration of its application was unclear at first. "We have to see how long this work will last," Schmitt said. They want to support logistics in this particular situation. “That’s why we’re accelerating and prioritizing approvals for large-scale transportation. » "The lifeline of our region" Schweitzer was hit by the accident on the Moselle. "This is the lifeline for our region, not only for the state of Rhinaine-Palatinate, but for the entire region, the neighborhood," he said. "What is happening here now and what has happened after the accident will concern us for some time, including with the economic implications. » In addition, in a future perspective, the issue of expanding waterways arises, M. said. Swiss. If waterways are to be modernized in the future for sustainability and capacity reasons, infrastructure improvements must also be considered.
  4. and I think the last boat to sink there did so through keeping well clear of the cill and much too near the front gate whereupon it caught under the balance beam,
  5. Hertford lock is in Hertford
  6. Might be interesting to see what voltage the alternator puts out with one or both B to Bs disconnected
  7. There was a time when they were opening restored canals rebuilding locks etc I dont think they actually read my proposals on this forum but maybe Magpie Patrick knows.
  8. Reasons why I may get an electric car but will not be electric boating anytime soon. Electric boats still cost much more (diy excepted) Boats last 50 years or more upgrading by swapping the engine and fuel storage is horrendously expensive (diy excepted) and according to others on this forum will necessitate undergoing a government mandated inspection costing £3000 + There are next to no charging facilities. Most leisure boaters actually boat for a limited number of hours per year HVO has been pushed as the answer to date why are we now talking about electric.
  9. This is a discussion forum one persons whinge is another's constructive criticism, of course they should have moved to steel years ago when they had money but we are where we are and hindsight is possibly not so constructive so no there is maybe no answer other than proper funding of a national asset like other countries. Though I've noticed our cash strapped local council has switched to expensive led street lights because they know it will save money long term.
  10. its still a false economy though and I thought they were now able to budget several years ahead
  11. "BM does not administer the RCD (or RCR). It has only a very minor role - it maintains a register of hull marking codes. " And therin lies the problem I suspect that if as a homebuilder you request a code from them they will invite you to f*** off
  12. Without seeing the "legal opinion" it is difficult to comment further. Does seem strange though that I can set myself up as a boatbuilder (and presumably pay the BMF hundreds of pounds to register) and self declare but as a private individual building solely for my own benefit I have to have a PCA when I sell the boat as a private individual
  13. This contradicts what you said on Wednesday about self declaration! This implies that a builder buying in a hull and fitting it also has to have a PCA ? Would you care to provide a source, who now accepts this? what legal review? This opinion seems to disagree https://bit.ly/3SXVZ0R
  14. I guess I wonder if anyone has done it? and what they charge for just issuing a number?
  15. This topic comes up regularly now it would be useful to have Alan D'Es BMF assertions and the Keeling and Brooks paper pinned for any prospective boat owners to study Alan, do you have a link to the BMF statement? RETHINKING post-construction assessment - PCA-Paper-Version-2.0.pdf "The 5-year rule was never there - the UK 'misunderstood' the rules. All other countries complied with the rules and it wasn't until this year that the British inland boating industry was informed they had been 'wrong'." debatable "The 'self-certify' is still available but when you are certifying it is compliant, it must be compliant, and evidence available. Compliance means complying with all of the 'Essential Requirements', which few commercial NB builds, and even fewer self-builds, actually achieve." - Thanks for that but how does that work now RYA used to issue the HIN number I doubt BMF would give one to a home builder - genuine question
  16. An interesting read thanks, link here https://bit.ly/3SXVZ0R I am sure the BMF are honourable people who wouldnt dream of drumming up work for their members and cutting out amateurs and only took on this role to ensure our safety and well being
  17. Just curious it used to be possible for a builder to self certify category D has this gone? Placing the BMF in charge of the certification process seems to be a clear conflict of interest.
  18. the foam used is "closed cell" clue in the name
  19. if it is a traditional design and you are strong and the canal deep enough it should be possible to remove the rudder top bearing and swan neck lift the rudder out of its cup and drop it out of the way. Make sure that you have secured it with a rope first. edited to say just looked again at photo the tube looks a little too narrow for that in this case
  20. fire resistant foam is available and used on boats see here The foam sticks like s**t to a shovel I have a piece of metal in the garden from when we cut a hole in the roof of the boat over 10 years ago, the foam on the underside is firmly attached (wheras the paint on the top side is starting to fail) However note the comments in that thread concerning what happens when the foam metal bond fails after welding or other heat.
  21. you didnt but the original poster was asking about going back to the installer with the "experts" prognosis
  22. In the context of this discussion I doubt the OP could go back to the engine installer and insist on a new skin tank foc.
  23. how do you top up the coolant?
  24. Well Beta don't agree with you, also as the cauliflower is above the engine the "bit of a header tank" isnt going to work too well surely the clue is in the name "header" from the Beta website; "When water heats up its density drops and as a consequence its volume increases; A typical water antifreeze mix of 30% at 10°C has a density of 1043 kg/m3 At typical engine running temperature of 80°C 80 this falls to 1005 kg/m3 This equates to almost a 4% increase in coolant volume, for a 45.5 litre (10 Gallon) system the expansion equates to almost 1.7 additional litre (3 Pints), so a provision is required for this expansion by adding into the circuit an appropriately sized remote coolant header tank. If this is not done water will lost through the engine coolant cap overflow and need to be replaced each time the engine has cooled down." https://betamarine.co.uk/keel-cooling-calculations/
