  1. Just laziness I think. It's odd how different owners approach treating their clients isn't it? Some are welcoming, others would like you to think you are privileged to be allowed on and seem to want you to bow and scrape. I think I'll stay here, the management couple live on a boat in the marina so at least they see it from both sides.

  3. True but a marina will say take it or leave it. For what it's worth they won't refund unused elec either! Here in Rufford they refund mooring fees and elec in all circumstances and you don't need to give them any advance warning - I could go to the office right now, say I'm leaving, take the units off the meter onto my card and they'd refund that and mooring fees up to the exact day! They'd even be perfectly nice about it.
  4. I guess at least yours is shiny? I have dark blue sides/cream top. In the sun I can't put my hand on the sides, the top is cool, the interior panels by midday are pretty warm, the ceiling panels are cold. It's basic physics isn't it?
  5. Raddle red - it's the "new" grey. There are quite a few on the marina. Great if you like to follow the fashion but they do look like half painted boats.

  8. No noisy eberspachers! And, they want a deposit (fair enough) but also expect you to start paying for your mooring before the marina even opens or you loose that deposit. 3 months notice to leave and no refunds of mooring fees If they kick you out, again they'll keep your pre-paid mooring fees. They obviously expect to be busy. Is there a shortage of marina moorings in the area?

  10. Magpies feed their young by raiding other birds nests, they'll clear out the whole area.
  11. A satin black boat will be an oven in the summer!

  17. True, been there and witnessed that. How did the water get in? No idea, the seal was still good all round when I took the panel off but luckily it was stuck to vinyl so no blistering paint and rust. I wonder if one bought rigid panels whether you could shape the bottom to follow the roof curve, they would still be pretty rigid once attached to the roof in my mind's eye. Would depend on just how curved your roof is - mine is fairly shallow.
  18. A better question would be "If the boat did need over playing in the next few years would you buy it?" No. Why deliberately put yourself through that?

  21. Out of a dead starter or some other motor I would guess.
  22. Not to mention overlooking the fact that the cabin will be lined and insulated with no access to the shell.

  24. But the main attraction is that it's something you can surreptitiously dump it under a hedge without feeling like a complete tramp - it's never going to be taken to an elsan because the whole point is to be elsan free.
  25. I suppose that depend on whether one is full of **** or full of ****. I believe the over riding driver for dry toilet people is to dramatically cut down the elsan trips - they brag about once every three months on this very thread. Ergo they never use an elsan at all, they bag the solids every three months and meanwhile water the hedge / canal. They wish to be untied from elsan locations.
