  1. Oh, OK, no-one agrees with me. Thank you for your permission to do so If this is how you get your satisfaction - you need to get out more! On the other hand, maybe it would be safer all round if you stayed in.....! Now, on whose lips have I heard those words before? Oh yes, a woman whose actions managed to create a society where, 'Greed is good' and the social destruction she caused we are still suffering the effects of. I've had terrible problems in trusting anyone since, from whose lips those words fell. No, it's your stock in trade willful and aggressive misinterpretation / ignoring of what has been said in a post, in an attempt to garner support for an increasingly untenable position, that makes you look foolish and alienates other posters. The bottom line is, some people on this forum find you aggressive, rude and patronising. We would appreciate it if when you reply to posts could you do so in a way as to not cause offence or appear to be attacking a poster. You strike me as being reasonably bright so please, take on the legitimate concerns of other users of this forum and prove how open, receptive and considerate you really are by showing a little consideration. Other folk here have managed to do so the past out of regard for the forum, I can't imagine you would not be prepared to show the same level of regard. lenx
  2. Whee I get to be on a list..... Hey, out of all the members on the list only three have ridden to Mr. Mayall's defence - It is sometimes interesting to shake the tree and see what falls out. I fully realised just how contentious my post would be and it garnered just the type of response I expected - mostly along the lines of - and here I will unashamedly paraphrase:(cue cries of, "I/We never said anything like that...") "That's the way it's always been, so grow a thicker skin" and "While we're allowed to express our opinion in any way we see fit you can't." I predict what we'll now see is a succession of posts where they cuddle up in a cyber hug confident that they've seen off the nasty folk.... The point is, there are ways and ways of making a point, expressing a point of view presenting a diametrically opposed point of view without making an o/p or subsequent posters feel as though they are being attacked for holding their point of view. Have a look at Mr. Mayall's response to Grasshopper's (posts 120/121) for an example of what I, in my humble opinion believe to be an example of an unnecessarily aggressive post, both in the tone in which it is expressed and the attidudes that it appears to support. Carlt chooses to interpret my, "You really should be careful in what you wish for, Mr. Mayall..... " as a veiled threat. I however contend that it was a well intentioned and heartfelt warning that Mr. Mayall's, "My name, the name of my boat, and where I moor are all freely available. Were then is the baying lynch mob?" may be seen by some as a foolish challenge that could put him in danger. But of course, Mr. Mayall knows that the majority of folk are quiet, calm and reasonable and most unlikely to take up the gauntlet and so justifies his continued rudeness because no-one will take up the offer and therefore he must be right in all he says no matter how he says it. Well, I'm all for robust discussion but if folk feel some posters seem to deliberately go out of their way to " shoot down peoples opinions and rain on their parade ! " then there's a problem that needs to be addressed. simply because they are used to getting away with it in other areas of cyberspace does not mean it has to be tolerated here. lenx
  3. Well, judging by the general tenor of some of your posts: While you take the level of being such a patronising a**ehole to such giddying heights and keep us amused in seeing just how insufferably rude and self congratulatory you can be in your responses - we'll let it run..... You really should be careful in what you wish for, Mr. Mayall..... Lenx - Rudeness and browbeating should not be excused by saying, 'You don't hear the tone of voice.' or 'You can't see the smile.' It only encourages the cyberbullies. -
  4. From the Highway Code: 260: If you are involved in an accident which causes damage or injury to any other person, vehicle, animal or property, you MUST * stop * give your own and the vehicle owner's name and address, and the registration number of the vehicle, to anyone having reasonable grounds for requiring them * if you do not give your name and address at the time of the accident, report the accident to the police as soon as reasonably practicable, and in any case within 24 hours. Law RTA 1988 sect 170 261: If another person is injured and you do not produce your insurance certificate at the time of the accident to a police officer or to anyone having reasonable grounds to request it, you MUST * report the accident to the police as soon as possible and in any case within 24 hours * produce your insurance certificate for the police within seven days. 7. Hi all, saw this, http://tinyurl.com/266kxz and wondered if it would be of any use to someone who didn't have all singing and dancing electrics, but could occasionally get a hook up? Len
  8. As it does me. Having had the problem pointed out to him and a reasonable request made for assistance, why has John not simply emailed out a reset password? - Or if he doesn't have the wherewithal to accomplish the task, ask someone who can - In the interest of honesty and integrity and idle curiosity it's the least that should be done. No probs, your choice: But some may, in the interest of balance, want to make a more informed choice directly from the source of the product and ask for clarifications, rather than throw a hissy fit because the exact methodology remains a trade secret (and you can't blame the guy for wanting to keep it that way..) and they can't work it out for themselves. Len
  9. I merely pass on his request - Don't understand your comment about things being taken away - I understand he experienced some technical diffculty in getting the server to email him his password, hence the second account when he rejoined and now seems to be experiencing the same difficulty. Surely as a mod you can expedite? Or is there a wider problem with the server of which we are unaware? Len
  10. Hi y'all, Gibbo would like an opportunity to reply, but seems unable to access either of his accounts. Would the mods be kind enought to email him his password/s please. TIA Len

  14. Hi there, technically, the season for Wild Duck and Geese (Inland) runs from 1 September - 31 January and you would need a Game Licence - from your local post office and the permission of the landowner from whose land you intend to take the bird or birds...... Also a number of methods of killing, injuring or taking birds are prohibited. These include gins, springs, traps leg pole traps), snares, nets, bird lime, electrical scaring devices and poisonous or stupefying substances; bows or crossbows, explosives (other than firearm ammunition), any gas or smoke, chemical wetting agent, artificial light, mirror or dazzling device, device for illuminating target or sighting device for night shooting, automatic or semi-automatic weapon (unless it is incapable of holding more than 2 rounds in the magazine), or shotgun with an internal diameter at muzzle more than 1 3/4 inches. Curiously, grabbing hold and wriinging the neck would seem to be OK ! It is an offence to use any mechanically propelled vehicle - including boats - in immediate pursuit of a wild bird to kill or take it. And can I have mine without the orange, please. Len
  15. Agreed, but some people just can't be convinced.... Len
  16. Or, in other words......, Ooops! Maybe they don't quite work.... misery loves company? Len
  17. Well, it will but .... In hydraulic systems accumulators are most commonly used as safety devices where an object needs to be held - when constant motion is required they are generally not used because using an accumulator as an energy storage device effectively reduces the required flow rate capacity of the hydraulic pump, this results in a reduction of the installed power. So, the energy stored in an accumulator is used to avoid the accidental interruption of the working of the power generator by guaranteeing continuity of the safety function for a specific time. So you are back to one of the drawbacks of the electric b/t, flat battery - or empty accumulator in this case. You will then experience the same problem you are trying to avoid as the hydraulic pump kicks in to repressurise the accumulator, leaving you with no b/t and a loss of power to your prop. This is why the hydraulic pump is run directly from your engine - to maintain a constant pressure in the hydraulic system to drive the b/t constantly and at its optimum power output. It's like driving uphill in your car - you either have to drop a gear, or apply more power to maintain a steady speed - certainly on our boat we don't have the option of dropping a gear so we apply more power... Len
  18. Sorry, wasn't very clear Yes you may be in tickover, and as you engage the b/t the engine revs drop so you gently increase the power to the engine to pick up the drop caused by engaging the b/t. Maybe I should have said it's a balance between the two you are trying to reach - it's certainly possible with our arrangement to maintain a tick over speed and use the b/t - takes a bit of practice though. On a good day I can get ours moving sideways!!! Len
  19. Hi, The hydraulic system on our share boat works in the same way. While it can be disconcerting at first it is possible to balance the outputs by judicious use of the power. I haven't {yet} found a situation where I want full power forward or reverse while using the bowthruster to manouver the front end - I try to plan it so there is way on the boat and use the b/t to push the front where I want it - or to hold me where I want to be while waiting for a lock, for example. An electrical pump pressurises the hydraulic system without the need for extra batteries and long runs of heavy cabling - hydraulic lines make the run to the thruster. It's a standard way of doing it as I understand it. Len
  20. Bit of a long shot, try posting a message here - http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.php?name=Forums there are a lot of experts who may be able to describe a simple minimum dismantling - they'll need to know the model and serial no. of your particular cooker so you could get it aboard...... good luck Len
  21. Hi there, Just came across this http://www.arnywear.co.uk/ thought it may be of some interest if the Avon Lady hasn't made it down the tow path yet.... Len

  23. Well, a mate has one in his greenhouse and you don't get the speed of a system powered fan, more a gentle persitent movement of airbut in a boat it could be left running without fear of flatting the battery-bank and there's also the bonus of keeping the boat aired when not aboard / laid up for the winter? The battery is recharged from the sp but we're convinced there's little power left over when the fan is running to recharge the battery - though it gets there soon enough with the fan switched off, a few hours of reasonable light seems to top it up - no I haven't the faintest how long it runs just off the battery.... But on a boat, mostly when cruising, you would tend to use it when needed? Len Len
