  5. It was isolated once, but now connected by the "Ribble Link". Here it is: https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/enjoy-the-waterways/canal-and-river-network/ribble-link
  6. Depends on how long it takes someone to fire up their stove using oily rags and run a generator all night on the towpath...

  8. It's been a while since they flattened all the buildings in the Icknield loop area in Birmingham. Some details of the plans for redevelopment here: http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/blueprint-deliver-5000-new-inner-12044289
  9. There has been some activity of a legal nature recently at Saul Junction Marina concerning boaters allegedly using moorings for residential purposes.. This activity seems to have been prompted by complaints, quite possibly from boaters: From the "Dark Side", August 2015: http://www.narrowboatworld.com/index.php/leatest/8305-too-many-residentials Subsequently in the local press June 2016: http://www.gloucestershirelive.co.uk/complaints-prompt-clampdown-boaters-overstaying/story-29299775-detail/story.html I don't know whether this has resulted in any fines being levied.

  13. My advice is to go and have a look at the boat first. If possible, talk to the owner. Don't part with your survey money until you are pretty sure that this is the boat for you, and be prepared to walk away if the survey is not favourable. I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the date that it was last blacked. For example, it could have been done last week, but you don't know how long it was from the time before. Fresh blacking can cover up a multitude of sins! If possible, post a copy of the advert here - some of the members are pretty good at working out the pros and cons of boats...

  19. There's a bit more to it than just an app. There is the wifi connection and a laser system to detect boats. More information here: https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/media/original/29729-sandfield-bridge-advisory-group-meeting-note-13-june-2016.pdf

  23. Possibly - but there is much to be said for the simple pastime of filling stockings with cat litter Cat litter is cheap and I think it is more absorbent than nappies...
