  1. Ah thanks - I understand now! I now have one more question - what do I do with the old ones??

  3. Ah my mistake then - I have the three I mentioned and so had just thought that they were what I needed (my first BSC for the boat). Guess I should go back and read the BSC website again too as I'm sure I'd worked out that they were the right sizes. Thanks Sarah
  4. I need to either get new extinguishers or get the current ones serviced. Anyone know how much it would be to get three serviced, how long it would take and where I'd find someone in the Loughborough area that could do them? Or is it just easier to get new ones (and then the next question would be - where from and how much would you expect 1 x 1kg 1 x 2kg and 1 x 3 kg to cost)? S

    Snow

No snow here at all Andy/Marc - if the snow is still there could someone just pop round to check my boat is doing ok? Am sure it will be and not sure what I expect to have happened but this is the longest I've ever left it all alone... See you next week (if I come home) Sarah x
  8. Andy - you going there after work Fri or Fri day time? If you're all around late afternoon Fri I will have time to drive over (car not boat!) and at least say hello! Sx
  9. I've just realised I can be in two places at once

  11. Heh. I can safely say I am much better off financially since I've been aboard but then I was lucky enough to sell my dry land abode almost two years ago so bought boat with cash. Hm that doesn't actually help boat builders does it? Sorry! Anyway the financial benefits are insignificant to the lifestyle benefits (phew did I dig myself out of hole with that??) S
  12. Hi Marc Really sorry but I can't make that weekend (have already made bd arrangements down south!). Have a beer (or ten) for me... S
  13. I also save for BSS and blacking on a monthly basis. Depending on your boat you may need to include pump out costs. Other than that I also have an emergency fund just so I have a nest egg there rather than fretting when I suddenly need to update/replace something which is different to my maintenance fund but then I am particularly "boring" when it comes to money these days. It also gives me some reassurance that I can survive for a few months should I lose my job. Value wise I don't actually save that much per month but I guess it's down to having saved for emergencies, BSS etc over a longer period that I already have enough saved already plus the fact my moorings aren't hideously expensive. S
  14. Beer? Local? It would probably be rude not to be there if I'm about Den - engine is a lovely happy chappy again now. I think I had a blockage to the day tank which wasn't helping.
  15. Marc - there's a supplier in Mountsorrel that is £8 for 25kg. I'm not at home at the mo but as soon as I'm back (poss not until Sunday or Monday) I'll try and remember to pass the details on to you. It's one of those places that is easy to find when you know where it is but I'm not sure I'd be able to describe how to get there. S
  16. Until earlier today I was able to view all posts/replies to a topic in one thread. Now I seem to get the original post with a list below of the posts. Have I done something?? Sx
  17. And no wonder there's still more joining us... it's a great place to be and I'm more than pleased with my home here! Sarah (aka Saracidal) Edited because I obviously hit the button before I'd even typed anything.
  18. Merry Christmas everyone! Have a very lovely time and enjoy the break Sx

  20. Ooh that might be worth a trip to Woolies while it's still around - they had Christmassy stuff at half price a couple of weeks ago. I got some white outdoor lights that are proudly twinkling on the cratch cover (try saying that to non boaters and see their reaction!). I've even taken to getting up early to put them back on for the early birds going to work! Sx

  22. Fantastic news - Christmas has definitely come early! Please do post next year - I've enjoyed reading about your travels. Sarah x
  23. I just have 2 batteries but configured to 24 v rather than 12v. I'll give it a go on the engine batteries to see if it is the batteries rather than the actual charger. Thanks although I can't believe I didn't think of that (sometimes I worry myself with lack of common sense).
  24. I have a little battery charger that is perfectly fine - normally! I've plugged it all in this morning to charge up my domestic batteries and it's just clicking in and out (shorting I guess). The negative wire is getting hot very quickly which isn't normal. I've turned it all off to ensure I don't set fire to anything but I've no idea why it's happening. I've checked the wires and can't see any damage, I've wiped them in case they were dirty/wet and that's the end of my ideas. Does anyone know if there's anything else I can check or what else I can do to make it work properly? Thanks
