  3. Trying to reverse at Cowroast marina yesterday, approaching the boat behind me I pushed the control lever forward and all that happened was I went backwards faster! The lady whose boat I hit was quite understanding and a couple of folks soon helped me back onto my mooring. One of our shorter cruises! On examination the cable connected to the gear box had snapped. It could still push the selector into its reverse position but could not pull back into neutral or forwards. The boat is 8 years old, the cable was still slippy with lubricant inside it's sleeve and there was no sign of corrosion, but it had just snapped about 8" away from the gear box end. I was able to buy a replacement from the marina chandlers, and fitted it myself, so now all is well. I am wondering how common this is, and thinking how lucky I was to have it happen 20' off my marina mooring and not in the middle of a river somewhere. David
  4. I posted some pictures to my part of the gallery, taken inside the engine room at Strepy if you would like a look. David http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?app=galleryℑ=839
  5. I make no comment, I don't know why they do it! I just took the picture. Seen on the Thames a few years ago. Uploaded with ImageShack.us
  6. Like my jumping frog, but not if you go to our profile pages
  7. My brother-in-law once lent me his Mercedes while he went off to the Phillipines on holiday, he is a bit flash. I quite enjoyed swanning about in this great swish car. Then I noticed that all the glass-ware right down to the head-lamp lenses and the interior driving mirror had been etched with an index number which bore no resemblance at all to what was on the plates. I took it home and left it alone till his return! David
  8. Yes and it's really dangerous. Ann and I have got it and we weren't even there! David
  9. Had lots of trouble with mine in early days, turned out to be that terrible push-fit connecter on the end of the lead. Had one made up with soldered on connectors, problem went away. David

  21. Our little boat balances up your opinion Alan, with 10 in total 8 on the hull and 2 on the rudder. You will remember from previous posts that these have been well used with 3 of them fizzing away within about 18 months. I still think that was because of external conditions at our moorings. BWML are currently replacing the site electrics because of "faults"! David Uploaded with ImageShack.us
  22. I know it seems obvious but is there enough water in the header tank? Also on our boat there are a pair of hand-valves to isolate the rad circuit so that you don't need to have them hotting up when you just want to heat water in the summer time. (Summer time - what's that?) david

  24. Hi Allan Our symptoms were exactly the same as yours only getting progressively louder over last few years. Darren at Cowroast was able to correctly diagnose it (having finally heard it, cos ours like yours would only manifest itself when everything was well warmed up) as being worn out engine mounts allowing the engine to frap against the edge of the bearers. Would only do it when warm, and at tick-over. This got so bad that conversations in locks were impossible. Toward the end it would do it in neutral also, but never in reverse. New, bigger, mounts and an engine re-allignment and peace has been restored. regards David
