  1. Thanks for your thoughts so far - our original plan was actually the Gloucester and Sharpness - but we were wondering about being trapped by the Severn..... also, we are quite keen to go down to London next year..... Any more thoughts or recommendations very welcome, thanks! Liz
  2. Hi We are travelling North in our newly acquired narrowboat on the Oxford canal and would love any member's advice on good, reliable boatyards who will take her out the water, check all is well, do the blacking and painting and look at other aspects of the boat which will need taking care of (it is a family boat and we know the history). We are considering several options regarding mooring and have found a possible marina place but are currently trying to keep our options open and would very much welcome any thoughts on this. We live in Gloucestershire and would prefer something which is at a reasonable distance so that we can get to her during the winter and work on smaller jobs which we feel confident tackling. We are experienced boaters and have owned two narrowboats previously but not are not experienced diy-ers! Any thoughts would be much appreciated, many thanks. Liz
  3. To Starcoaster - thanks very much for the layout, brilliant!
  4. To Starcoaster - interested to read about the fixed double on your 30ft, how is that achieved? We're just about to acquire a 30ft boat and would love to have a fixed double but not sure how this might be best achieved.
  5. These are really helpful hints, thanks very much - if anyone has anything else to add, that would be brilliant. I'll put everything together later, it's really useful! Thanks again! Liz
  6. Thanks for the replies - we're not doing the Sharpness bit but going via the Oxford and across to Stratford etc - and looking for longer moorings such as 14 day rather than 24/48 hours. Any thoughts would be brilliant, thanks. Liz
  7. Hi We are going to move a boat from the K&A to Gloucester and Sharpness over the summer but will need to do it in stages. Does anyone have any good suggestions about good mooring places for a week or two along the way - close to public transport links/good car parking etc.? Thanks very much for any thoughts! Liz
  8. Thanks for all your suggestions, we're meeting at the Anchor, brilliant! Liz
  9. Thanks for the great suggestions.. good pub as in lovely but inexpensive lunch, sadly no drinks as we're both driving... Liz
  10. Hi, can anyone recommend a good pub by the water in the Evesham/Worchester/Pershore area - or anywhere closeby - for lunch please? Am meeting a friend in a week or so..... Thanks! Liz
  11. That sounds fun, thank you!
  12. Wow, amazing lift, thanks for the photos! Thanks to you all for all your comments, really looking forward to our stay!
  13. Thanks so much to everyone for your kind comments, lots to think about here!
  14. I should probably clarify - the boat itself is being given to us for nothing if we want it.... However, it is a family boat and therefore us selling it would not be a good option. If we didn't take it on, it may be sold by the owner. Thanks again!
  15. Thanks, we're used to driving in Europe so aware of the side roads! Will definitely visit the boat lifts and inclined planes, trip boats would be fun too. Is there much commercial traffic on the Belgium waterways? I don't really know much about them.
