  1. The tank full light is meant to come on when you remove the tank. There is a separate micro switch to sense the presence of the tank or not, this is different from the tank full sensor. They do the same thing I.E. turning on the warning light and stop the pump from forming a vacuum.
  2. It could be a build up of crud inside jamming the float. Maybe worth filling with water, leave upside down overnight, removing half of the water and shaking vigorously. That's if (as above) the reed switch is not faulty, test with a magnet might work? I think opening would involve a saw or sharp knife.
  3. Thanks for the compliments They're not available off the shelf unfortunately. They're from cable tray that I stole from a skip at work. It was originally a 'U' tray shape (silver in the picture below) but I cut the sides off, welded a pair of screw blocks to each and painted them blue. (This picture is from engine bay #1, it's much better now)
  4. Well, big thanks to Wiltshire Moonraker (Chris) above, I got my big cables crimped and in service this weekend! Thanks again
  5. I would think that it's going to be more stable than a canoe/kyak, loads of people hire them round here without bothering with lifejackets (slow flowing canal, not river though). The usually bumble along and pull over when a boat comes from either direction. It's a wide canal. You might want to consider a waterproof bottle for keys and food.
  6. Glue some wood to the metal bits with flexible, waterproof adhesive (e.g. 'WetGrab'). Screw pipe fixings into the wood.
  7. Thanks for the suggestions, I soldered a couple of lugs that I'm now replacing (due to an engine bay re-organise). I'm not too happy with the job I did on them using thick resin cored solder and a gas ring, which is why I wanted to crimp this time. I'll try boaty works and car places, if no luck I'll go down the eBay route at the end of the month. Ta. I could knock together a web-based database.
  8. I've finally got a load of hefty cable and a box of goodies from ASAP Supplies with bus bars, spade crimps, fuse holders, lugs, rubber wot-nots and other bits and bobs. I've got a red/blue/yellow ratchet crimper but was wondering if anyone on the K&A around Bradford-on-Avon might have something suitable for 25mm2 battery cable crimping that I could borrow or borrow for money over the weekend. HSS want £60/day , it'd be cheaper to buy one from eBay, but I only have a few ends that need doing TIA.
  9. I've got one of these in my front room (I only picked it up on Friday). It's great fun to play with, fill the bown right up with water, push the flush and WOOSH! The contents disappears The best of both - a remote cassette tank and a normal (ish) loo.
  10. Something I've been considering (and there's not been much talk about them on here) is a methanol fuel cell. Link Not cheap, but comparable to a Honda genny, coupled with a battery bank and pure sinewave inverter this looks like a good power source. Gibbo was saying the other day about slow charging batteries being better, 4.2A is a good background constant charge I think I understand that you don't have yo use their supply of methanol (though naturally they recommend you do), you can get far cheaper and just as good stuff from many other places too.
  11. It must be good stuff if he can't remember where he makes it!
  12. This one uses an external 12v supply.
  13. You may not need one in the future, however; unless you take the other suggestions in this thread, you do need one now. Yes, it may turn out to be money spent on something that is only useful to you for a few months if the requirement is dropped but it is required now and the terms of your BW licence required to move your boat now. How long are you planning to sit in the same spot and wait for a decision?
  14. Maybe 4 days is a little short notice, but I would have one within 53 days.
  15. The boat must be moved, the quickest solution would be to find someone with the appropriate bit of paper and ask/pay them to do it for you. Problem solved. You now have two weeks to get a decision or bit of appropriate paper for yourself.
  16. It looks like it was built that way, only 27ft long now so I don't imagine it's been stretched... yet.
  17. Mine has a 4 inch flat bottom too! A 4x4in bit of rubbing wood is attached all the way along underneath.
  18. If you're fitting out from scratch then what's your floor like? is it all flat? I got more headroom in my v-hull boat by having a lower section in the middle, it does mean that you're limited on layouts, but gave shed loads more head room. The shower/wetroom is at the front of the boat as I have no front doors.
  19. If enforcement of 'leisure moorings for leisure use' is stepped up, what's to stop those with leisure moorings who live on their boat from bridge hopping either side of their mooring? They don't need to be making a progressive journey as they're not CCers. We'll end up with a load of rented-but-empty leisure moorings with all of their tenants on the 14 day moorings 100 yards away.
  20. I DIY spray foamed my 27ft springer with VersiFoam, I too thought a £200 odd (18m2 @25mm) twin tank kit would be enough, it did the roof and the top sides. In the end I also got the £400 odd system 50 size (55m2 @ 25mm) and used most of that too. If you do DIY spray foam then try to do it all in a couple of days as the stuff in the hoses will crystallise and block the gun if you leave it in there for longer than a week or two.
  21. There's a guy between Avoncliff and Bradford-on-Avon that sells then from his boat. The examples on the roof look OK. Sorry, no name or number to hand. Edit: Well, it's nearish Bath.
  22. I recently fitted some downlighters from B&Q, sold in packs of 10 they require just 1.5in of space behind them. They take G4 capsules (included) and come with a 240v > 12v PSU which you can throw away. Again, not listed on their website, name is 'Ice' or something like that. They have chrome bezels with small glass dome diffusers.
  23. One screw on / solvent weld 90deg elbow and a bit off pipe from B&Q, job done. Err, not listed on B&Q's site, but I bought one a few weeks ago. More edit: If your skin fitting is threaded, get a 1.25in to 1in reducer which means you can also use the straight version if the item above.
  24. This is my favourite shop at the moment. As I'm doing up my boat I go there almost every weekend, if they don't have something in stock they'll get it in for you.One of the guys that works there lives aboard on the K&A too.
  25. I eventually settled on a Davey HotPot for my 27ft Springer, it's great and could be the uxbridge one (£480 odd with the deck collar). Pics on my blog below.
