  1. I had a boat with a hole in about this position years ago - it had the engine right at the back and the gas locker was in the engine room - the hole on the waterline was a vent hole - it let water in over the tears and rotted through the engine room bulkhead! Wouldn't explain why it is on both sides though!
  2. My understanding is that Marine 16 does not bind with the water, it simply separates it out of the fuel and the water drops to the bottom of the tank - is this not the case?
  3. I had something similar just last week when I pumped out from the bottom of my tank - dark red with a few slimy black deposits. I will be adding Marine 16 bug killer tomorrow. I have also bought some water paste (http://www.petrochemsuppliesgs.com/paste.html)which goes bright red in the presence of water - you simply smear it on a wooden dowel and place it vertically in the tank. It's something I heard of on here, I haven't tried it, but it looks good.
  4. I assume that to get over the various roads, the existing mainline railway, the canal and adjacent watercourses, all at pretty much 90 degrees to the new line, that it will be on an embankment. What an eyesore that will be!
  5. Great Haywood Marina was also on Countryfile - apparently its going straight through there!
  6. Sounds the perfect solution for those that would not be seen dead steering a cruiser sterned boat as well!
  7. Thanks, the brass wheel solution is very attractive, I just need to work out how to attach the wheel to the shaft coming out of the morse control. I'll take the lever off at the weekend and have a look at what is revealed
  8. When we had our engine changed last year, we ended up with a single lever 'Morse' control to work the forward and astern on our new hydraulic gearbox. I hate it, it is ugly and I'm missing the traditional brass gear wheel that we had before. The gearbox is operated on a cable and its a very short throw on the gearbox lever to move between the three positions. Has anybody seen anything nicer that would suit a cable connection? Even a brass morse lever would be a huge improvement over what we have now - but a small gear wheel would be perfect! Any ideas folks?

  10. The company that I work for bought a few factory units on the old lister site - that has now become Littlecombe Business Park. We bought them on a long lease from St Modwen - so it might be a lease purchase at Hardwicke rather than just a rental
  11. I moor next to Gusto - I think you made the right choice!
  12. We are pretty new at Great Haywood, but have been very impressed; I recently found out that by staying for a year you get a free slip every year, I am having my boat out for blacking at the on site facility and the slipping part of the job was FOC - really impressed. You also have the chance to use the two other marinas in the group - Saul and Tattenhall on a short term basis. It also gives a choice of 3 immediate cruising routes.

  14. Realising that the rebuilt engine I had bought from what I thought was one of the best - turned out to be a bag of crap!
  15. But it won't work like that - I would be able to leave my boat in a community of liveaboards. Or would they get cross at me bending the rules
  16. OK - so let's imagine that I am not a cc'er but I opt to get a cc licence at £100 extra per year. I take up a 6/7 months mooring facility in a marina/s - and then I just go and get 'free mooring' for 5 months. I think a lot of us would take up that offer!
  17. I think you will be OK - it's when the temperature drops below zero and stays there that the problems begin - a few overnight frosts shouldn't be a problem for a calorifier. A Paloma style water heater sitting under an open vent may be a different story however.
  18. Consider the security aspects - someone can get onto your front deck in seconds and then can spend as long as they want getting through the front doors - whilst being out of sight the whole time!

  20. I thought this was a good buy http://www.apolloduck.co.uk/advert.phtml?id=275573 HRW3 with very low hours
  21. I thought it was a poem to start with!
  22. Keep the bucket underneath it and open up the hot tap at the sink - that seems to produce water from mine!
  23. If anyone is interested - Picquot have some seconds available of their kettles. £89.95 http://picquot.co.uk/
