  1. Hi Mike thanks ever so much, I'll have a look for the original but it looks really hopefull. Do you think that the damage done by using the wrong drive plates will be ok with the right one, if you know what I mean! I'm pretty sure that the borg plates are more gutsy than the R&D do you agree, Wendy
  2. Hello, I was put off wind turbines and went for solar as I was told by our local fitter that they can be very noisy if fitted on boat and weather they have improved through the years ( they probably have) but used to only work well if you have them in an exposed area, hope this helps, Wendy
  3. It is a old 3 cylinder Perkins, with a PRM 160 gear box, John Else at the boatyard just up from Trent lock, he seems very knowledgable on drive plates, he was the person that told me that the wrong plate had been put on, he showed me the correct one compared to the Herth and there was a obvious size difference in the middle in other words would have been loose on the spline, you could also tell on the spline where it was shiny where it had been rubbing. He wrote a letter for me, for the Insurers but the company that fitted it had almost gone bust so couldn't get my money back or anything
  4. Since I had a drive plate replaced with a Hearth instead of a PRM at a boat yard, not a million miles away from Kings Bromley, I'm going through drive plates like they are going out of fashion. In the last 2 years I've gone through about 5, one went after about 50 miles! The strange thing is sometimes the centre has been completely worn down like it had been done on a lathe and on others the centre is not to bad but the white plastic around it is shot. The original drive plate was a Borg and Beck and lasted for years and years, can't find a replacement so have been using R&D since. By the yard putting the Hearth one on it had worn down the spline a bit. I have had all sorts of suggestions, like space out the plate on the spine or engine out of line, has anyone any ideas please, Wendy
  5. I will be well happy if I get a survey report next year regarding the hull thickness and pitting and my boat is 1987 but honestly Colecraft are a very good make. Good luck
  6. Hello Daniel, just asking the question now as the deal from 3 is very new and wondered if other networks were following suit by improving their deals, Wendy
  7. I've got a good coverage on 3 on my mooring its just when my partner goes around the country dredging the canals I often stay in the caravan unless its somewhere that I can take the boat to. Most places we have been so far have a good reception for 3 and orange, don't know about other networks, I'm just wondering if the deal I mentioned on 3 sounds good or not for the price.
  8. When I am away from boat where I have Broadband which moble phone company gives the best deal for using mobile as a modem. I phoned 3 and they have just started some new deals, which are 1 Gig for £10 a month or 3 gigs for £15 a month, is this good or are there better deals around?
  9. I think you will find that Stewart Mc Guigan retired this year from anything to do with boats now, to concentrate on his other projects, I wish that he hadn't as I always found him very fair indeed.
  10. Charles are you for real, or is this just a big wind up?
  11. Poland seems to be becoming a popular place for people getting their boats built
  12. Sorry to say Chris, I just phoned up the coal merchant you mentioned and he said they only do 20k bags ie £5.75 for a 20k bag of Pure heat, so it is not any cheaper than we get it here
  13. God how awful really glad your cat survived, what a brave little thing, I've not heard of this being done round our way and we have lots of cats on boats here.
  14. Thanks for that Chris, going to see if he will deliver as far as here, Wendy
  15. I think possibly the landowner pays BW and you then pay them, depends on what sort of mooring it is and what agreement they have with BW
  16. My partner ocasionally does the gravel run from West Drayton to Denham for the company he works for Land & Water, it operated all year round and has been going for at least 3 years
  17. our local coal boat diesel is 57p and two weeks ago the land supplier was 49.9p, Oxfordshire price
  18. A real character boat I'm quite jealous.
  19. I'm lucky to have a bt line to my boat and a couple of years ago I ordered sky, the guy came out to fit it and said it could not be done because of the trees and thought the signal would be to unstable on the roof, perhaps because the size of the dish as I've seen plenty of boats with them on.
  20. My partner works on dredging the canals, at the moment they are dredging the K&A near Reading, the normal depth they dredge to is 1.3 to 1.4 metres, hope this helps, Wendy
  21. Thankyou everyone for advice on my pump. I found the leak thismorning 3 of the fittings had rattled loose!!! Have bailed out about 20 gallons of water so far have to wait for the water to run through the ballast to the back as the leak was right by the front. The only thing that I can think made this happen is the vibration from running the engine so much and maybe because I used the push on fittings did not help, Thanks again. Wendy
  22. What type of water heater would you go for, sealed units or the standard type with the 2ft flu?
