  8. Only just got around to reading this......thoroughly enjoyed it as usual. We passed you on Friday 22nd June. You were moored at Barbridge Jct, reading a book on the front of the boat. It was i who said hello!! I also passed you again at the poachers pocket! Shame about the weather. We had 2 weeks of near constant rain... I cant believe the difference to the same time last year.
  9. its just not the same anymore...sob sob..
  10. couldnt have put in any better myself. The pub was once a fine place.........back when it was a frequented by Dick Turpin. Which is quite ironic as its full of modern day dicks. An extra 30-60 mins cruising towards curdworth would have been a better option.
  11. In response to other posts... i would rather hire, and spend loads of $$$$ than have a cruiser. Not practical for dogs, and i dont like em' as much as NB's. my choice!! nothing against them. If i had the cash and time, of course buying a boat is preferable to sharing, because you get the freedom. But, i dont have the cash, or time, so sharing IS preferable to hiring.... but thats my story, as per above, everyone is different...
  12. I agree with John too... Even on Heartbreak hill (my "preferred" choice of name), which i have done many times, this still works....just need to be a bit slower letting the water in....which some people are incapable of doing.
  13. I have spent close on £15000 hiring in the last 10 years. For the same amount i could have had a share, on a better boat, had 33% more weeks, and i could have then sold the share recouping more than 50% of my initial outlay. So to summarise, more weeks, less money....and the boat will always be in a better condition than some of the shite ive ended up with from hire companies. For me, its simple..... if you only want to go for a week a year, hire. If you want to cruise more, but are limited due to work (i.e i get 6 weeks a year, and dont want to use them all for boating) and funds....get a share. If you CAN cruise more than say 6 weeks a year, AND have £20k+ handy....and can afford to pay more than £100 a month to maintain........buy a boat. For the last 10 years i have hired. For the next 15 years i'll have a share Then i'll buy one... Unless i get made redundant or get the sack, in which case i'll buy one!!!!
  14. Im glad you came to that conclusion for ME........But you are wrong. Its not preferable, for ME. Nic....i understand what you were saying. There is Snobbery here.....not a lot....but there is some. I have thought about what is best for me, for a number or years....and i have used some opinions on here to aid in my decision. I could afford a nice boat if i wanted to..tbh....but financially, realistically, shared Ownership is preferable, for my own reasons...despite other peoples conclusions.
  15. I have spent close on £10k hiring boats over the last 5 years. That 10k isnt enough to purchase a £25k boat.......+ costs. That 10k would have bought me a £5k share with an ownerships boat, and covered all costs over the 5 years. I could've then sold my share and recouped most of the intial 5k....say £3500. With ownerships i would have had 3-4 weeks a year cruising, thats 15-20 weeks over 5 years, compared to the 12 i have had in the last 5 years hiring So if we are comparing hiring to owning a share...double the time for less the money...... For me.... if you can afford 25k+ and have funds to cover approx £200/month in costs.....buy a boat. I cannot afford that amount, but want more time to cruise a boat. So owning a share would work out cheaper. just to clarify..... If i hired for one week in march, two weeks in August, and one week in October for 5 years with Anglo-welsh...i would spend roughly £15000..... I have seen a share on a far better boat for £4000. With £70/month costs. Total spend = £8200, and i can recoup some costs when i sell.. There is sense in shared ownerships......................(timeshare is different)
  16. The answers are all in Bills posts. The have purchased the boat from CC. No name change. As they live in Oz, they come over once a year and spend 12 weeks cruising the cut. When they are at home in Oz, the boat is hired out as a holiday boat by CC. They usually cruise between March, April, May....so i expect Bill himself is unavailable for comment until he gets home........
  17. Closing will not solve that problem.....whos to stop someone/anyone starting up a new thread..... anyways......i don't think its up for debate. Thread stays open. Just need people to think before they "add" cus they are wasting their own time and Jons/mods
  18. Agreed!!! Theres more to come Dont see the need to close it tbh....especially as Jon has stated that he will edit/remove where appropiate.
  19. bye then And with Jon being a copper himself.......
  20. I cant see anything in your posts thats worth a warning. If you click on the 33%, there will be a message telling you what the warning was for.... feel free to share
