  2. Strange, Using my Nokia N97 mini, I can surf the webby, I can log onto CWDF and access and write postings. I fact it is so handy, I've stopped taking my Samsung NC10 on board, as the power consumption is much less. Rob

  5. If, perchance you bank with Barclay's Bank, they give you Kaspersky free of charge, for use with 3 'puters. The downside to Kaspersky is that it likes to update the definitions every day, and if are away from a broadband access point for more that three days, it nags you like hell. Luigi!
  6. Hey! Pssst! The word on the street is that Microsoft Security Essentials is very good and totally free! Luigi
  7. LOL! 'Tis strange - I thought that I was the only one who likes sleeping on their tum. The bed on land has a staggered railed foot board, and if I align my feet into the correct spacings, I can slide my feet through and luxuriate! The NB's bed does have a 6'6" bed length, but a small gap at the bottom - 25-50mm (1-2"), again, I can wriggle my toes into the gap and once again luxuriate. Bliss! Rob

  11. Psst! Could you please explain how your narrowboat occupies more than one parallel universe? Just how many 'puters can you pack into a 70 foot long narrowboat? Intrigued Rob
  12. As a side branch, this is the very reason that the Blackbird SR-71 leaked fuel like a holey bucket, when on the ground, the plane was designed to fuel leakproof when at operational heights, the plane had just enogh fuel to get air bourne and up to operational cruising temperatures (and length), before the plane was re-fuelled air-air. Rob Phil, As a tool maker, you should have known that there is but one temperature at which components should be machined and inspected at (includung "heat soak") and that is 20°C Rob

  14. Hi all, Due to the marina being frozen over yet again, we stayed at home this week-end, so I done some browsing in our high street stores, I found a pair of boots that looks like they may be the ticket, Blacks Kilimanjaro II's for £70.00. They appear to have good Vibram soles, sympatex breathable, water proof lining. http://www.blacks.co.uk/footwear/men/walki...uct/083642.html

  16. I suspect that it was Gee's Linctus, which contained a smattering of opium, it was the only medicine (apart from surgical spirits) in the medicine cupboard of the formidable nurse at the surgery, when I was 'prenticed to the prince of darkness. Rob

  19. I can clearly recall bloody boring Friday night is music night, Sing Something Simple with the dreaded Cliff Adams singers, Sunday two o'clock radio, the Clithero Kid and The Navy Lark. The awful Black and White minstrel show, Bloody Billy Cotton, Hughie Green's Double Your Money, Michael Miles Take your Pick, my god! was I abused as a child? The very un-PC school money box for African orphans referred to above, it was a cast iron caricature of a negro boys head, a coin was placed on his upturned palm and I cannot recall what actuated the mechanism which raised the boys hand to his open mouth, where the coin was swallowed (I seem to re-call an ear being twisted?). Toasting bread on an open coal fire, using a toasting fork. My grandad shuffling up to a nearby pub carryout with a four pint crock jug, returning with froth cascading down the sides. The awesome sight and sound of steam locomotives, pulling away from New Street and Snow Hill Stations. The awful pea-souper fogs caused by all the soot belching coal fires. The warm smell of the paraffin lamp in the out-side loo, placed strategically to prevent a frozen toilet, which could have cracked on defrosting.....
  20. I can recall MASSIVE amber sun, low slung in the sky, whilst I played in the back garden in the winter months, 'tis strange, but I never see that kind of sun anymore. I can recall the coalmans horse and cart, even a Co-op's horse and bread cart. The sight of the Bakelight factory chimney, viewed on the horizon from my bedroom window. The telegram boy on his bicycle, Velocette LE police motorbikes, the "magic eye on the valve radio, which was a tuning aid. Being allowed to play out of doors all day long, with out my parents getting concerned. Playing in the Sarehole bog and derelict water-mill, where JRR Tolkien also played as a lad (and based much of middle earth on), The Birmingham university clock tower (one of the Two Towers). The drawbridge and adjacent off-license in Shirley, where me and my dad would cycle to, abandoned, sunk hulks. Spending whole days fishing at Earlswood Lakes, exploring the whole length of the river Cole, fishing for stickle-backs, tadpoles. Strange, there also seemed to be a lot more Blue bottle flies as well. Lulu, the alcoholic tart, my parents - they always seemed OLD to me! Out-side loos and the dreaded Izol rubbing down paper, laughingly sold as toilet paper. Cloth hankies (disgusting!), Sunday night bath nights, Sunday roasts and Mondays boring cold meat and left overs. Mom buying 3 2lb bags of sugar a week, for a family of 5! Liver and onions, butter melting in the summer - we didn't have a fridge. Rob

  22. Hi, I use my trusty Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 40gbyte MP3 player, it is over 6 years old, it is well used and I run it off a 12v car cigar lighter adapter. I bought this before fruit players came onto the market and I've NEVER regretted it! I plug this either into the mini hifi or the Teac RX1 DAB radio. Rob
