  1. The sheets will be standard ply size 8ft x 4ft fitters will want to use maximum sheet to save cutting and expense, the bearers will normally be 18”-24” shell builder depending. But your boats not a narrowboat so in reality completely irrelevant comparing it to narrowboat design and steelwork as your pictures show..
  2. Just to clarify is that @Markypoo widebeam on the corner right then?
  3. What’s Nice on The Waterways? @PeterScott past life or his photos of basically no boats moving at present. What’s so nice Today? Today no boats moving, compare to————— Yesterday with no boats moving. Most repetitive boring thing on here.
  4. To do that you’ll need to make a quick call to your builder and ask if he can stretch and double the width of your build, as only inappropriate big boats have 2x sets of ablutions😱😱😱😱😱
  5. Thought you weren’t buying one of those daft expensive boats with all the pointless “Whistles & Bells” but the more sensible better value ones from next door? 👍😂
  6. Maybe people need to realise that this is a Forum and shouldn’t be taken too seriously as it’s not the real world. No one makes people post on here. If people get wound up with the posts and can’t handle what people write maybe a Public Forum is not for them.
  7. Where are you, near York? As the guy you recommend is nowhere near by the looks of it being South Wales.
  8. If I was you, I would take my comment as it was intended a bit of fun. Reading what others are writing about you and they seem to know your boat, I would be more concerned about those and not one that was having a but of fun with you.
  9. Will be interesting to see how many people do this survey, will IWA members to do it and everyone else just not be bothered, will anyone take any notice of it? as CaRT seem to have the next 5 year licence increase and plans in place from their survey. Maybe people are fed up with Waterway/Canal surveys.
  10. @Markypoo if you wanted to be taken seriously I would of picked a better Forum name, as that names just crap 😂
  11. Thought this was another Newbie asking about another Boat survey on an old boat they’re thinking about buying to live on. Maybe you should change the title to something like: ”IWA launch another Survey - can’t do any harm”
  12. Speak to the examiner that did the BSS(if you know) he may have a record. I don’t know if it’s a legal requirement for the examiner to keep the records for a certain number of years. But he’ll be your best bet to point you in the right direction to obtain the info.
  13. I’ve found he can be too “covering his ar$e” sometimes and a bit too critical with hulls often recommending over plating too easily or the buyer walks away, if you know what I mean.
  14. You could try Richard Fee, but to be honest I don’t know if he’s still doing Surveys or just doing BSS’s now, but he’s Gas Boat Safe, so you know he’ll be looking closely at the gas system. He’s highly regarded in the area so maybe worth contacting. His details are below:
  15. And todays version, no fire, just a king size bed.
  16. No,, your builder was confirming the boat length that would go down the flight and said he was doing a 60ft cruiser stern for a guy, I said you would be OK. Finesse do 62ft boats that can’t get down😂 you made a good decision and will get a great boat and save a lot👍👍
  17. Think I was talking about you the other day then, 60ft cruiser stern, Steve’s build.👍👍👍👍
  18. As Alan says you’ll have to get the tides right, have done it a few times, last 1-2 hours slow going into Cromwell, but doable. Just speak to the Lock keepers at Keadby and they will tell you the best option for the tides. It’s not as daunting as you think so don’t get yourself worked up about it, there’s always boats going South that time of year, just buddy up with one and follow it, if they stop off at Torksey for the night do the same, it will be a lot less stressful. Is your boat being built at Sheffield?
  19. Because that’s what I call my well deck lockers😂
  20. Wilson is originally from the Potteries and he calls them Fore or Front Cabins. I heard the story that the name came from the ware that was carried in that part of the boat, expensive fragile pottery heading to London. But we’ll never know, so some will call them Potters and others will call them Fore. If there was no gas in there, as on a gas free all electric boat, you could call it the “Potters Locker” and Bamboozle Gongoozlers with a nostalgic story of your own😂
  21. Is that the historic boat builder that’s been building for the last 100 years or the one that’s been building for about 7 year? Looking at the Fore cabins you wouldn’t get a great deal of cargo in them, more likely a place to store boat running gear, ropes, spikes, canvas, wedges? Stuff that you want easy access to and to store, a ready use locker.
  22. Seams to be the new “hip” name with people getting these on their boats. Spoke to the builder that’s doing a few of these for the front bedroom design, he referred to them as you say as “Fore” or “Front” while the new owners with the finished boat called it the Potters cabin. Maybe they like to tell the story of valuable Wedgewood being transported in there, wrapped in straw.😂
  23. You’ll be ok, by the time you’ve done the Tinsley flight you’ll know how to do locks.
  24. Where from the link above? Let people know for similar in the future👍
