  1. Restricted hours (10.00 - 14.00) from 16th July due to lack of water. Locks 55-46, Locks 39, 40 & 45, Lock 29 & 22, Berkhamsted to Fenny Stratford | Canal & River Trust https://share.google/WUwoUsOZJK6Q8WdGW

  3. Lock 44 now repaired, navigation open. 🙂 Water being run down to top up pounds.
  4. Because that's what the method statement said 🙂. The gate was in a fairly fragile state and it was deemed sensible to make everyone turn their engines off because *some* boaters seem to like revving the nuts off them when in a lock, which could have led to further problems. Although, if going down the lock, it would probably not matter; one method statement fits all.
  5. The Met office, the environment agency and the BBC would all get slated by the usual suspects if someone slipped over and there had been no red / amber warnings. It's a lot of "CYA".

  7. Updates 08/11/2024 09:20 Effective Today and Over the Weekend: Navigation will be open for assisted passage from 12:00 to 14:00. Starting Monday: Monday to Friday: Assisted passage hours will be from 10:00 to 14:00. Saturday and Sunday: Assisted passage hours will be from 12:00 to 14:00. 06/11/2024 13:57 UPDATE : Further to the damage caused by the boat strike on Saturday afternoon please be advised that our engineers and reactive team are putting everything in place to get the lock back open as soon as we can. We have a work craft on its way to site to allow our reactive team manager to get accurate measurements for a new metal heel. This will then need to be fabricated. We have a contractor providing a quote to support us in lifting the gate out for a repair. We have requested service searches to allow us to permit anchor mooring rings to be installed in the quadrant to allow us to temporarily strap up the gate which will allow us to offer assisted passage until the permanent repairs can be completed. A further update will be provided once assisted passage can be offered
  8. https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/notices/29978-lock-55-rising-sun Navigation closed until further notice due to significant damage to lock gate due to a boat striking the gate. Closure extended from lock 54 to lock 56 Short pound with very limited mooring space. We advise boating visitors to find a safe and available mooring some distance from lock 54 to 56
  9. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c8rlx6y2dzgo A family-run boating business is to stop running holiday rentals on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal because of the condition of the waterway. Pennine Cruisers of Skipton said the route had not been maintained at a high enough standard to keep it open and navigable. Director Ian Clarke said it had become "soul-destroying" to operate on the canal because of low water levels and broken locks. A spokesperson for the Canal and River Trust, which maintains the waterways, said the decision was "sad", but that the charity would "continue to help support" Pennine Cruisers.
  10. Open again this morning. The canal, not the Red Lion.
  11. Description The body of a deceased individual was found in the canal by the Red Lion Pub (near Vicarage Rd) 01/10/24, as a result we have put in place a navigation closure in this area to ensure that investigations by the police are carried out unimpeded. An update will be provided as soon as we have more information

  13. You mean th*nderb0at ? 😇
  14. I'm a serial hirer, and many of the volunteers at Marsworth have owned, shared or hired boats. Regardless of any actual experience all new volunteers have to complete 20 hours accompanied by someone who is already trained. Once the 20 hours has been done there is then an assessment comprising a written test, followed by actually working a boat up and down a lock (not the same boat 🙂). We are all told to always ask if a boater wants any assistance.
