  1. The larger slide on mine had the same problem. I riveted two pieces of brush strip aka draught excluder a bit longer than the runner is wide, onto the back of the hatch over the runners. A bit of rubber may do as well but I had the brush to hand. It has bristles about 20 mm long mounted in a metal crimped strip, just drilled and pop riveted them on, been dry ever since.
  2. Yes, there are/were several bad boys around. Thankfully they go bust regularly, trouble is they pop up again like daisies. Hulls with no weld inside in places, longer on one side than the other, bulkheads front and back not parallel or welded all round, and the inevitable banana boats.
  3. T&M to Great Heywood, Staffs & Worcs to Autherley Junction the down the Shroppy to Hurleston locks and you are on the LLangollen. Not really out of your way, at least you miss the Cheshire locks - Heartbreak Hill. Sorry for the multi postings, I have an internet problem with breaks and reloads, I go to sleep and leave it alone.
  4. Can someone pick up my bike? its next to Tamlin below bridge 30. Breach is on the straight about 150 yds down stream (Ha Ha) of Stanthorne lock which is the 2nd up from junction with the T&M at Kings lock. The Wardle canal is the last 45 metres of the Middlewich branch of the Shroppy Middlewich arm.

The Wardle canal is the last 45 metres of the Middlewich branch of the Shroppy Middlewich arm. I live above Stanthorne lock, and walk this length regularly. There are worse looking bits of bank on the branch, this one always looked OK but there is a river running below this embankment and it is probably that which has started to damage. Its going to be tough getting plant in, it will have to come over the farm fields from Coal Pit Lane past the mill house and these fields are planted with spring crops.

  7. Starting at Wrenbury is a good move, the lower end of the canal is the hard part. An easy week but bear in mind, committing to 6 hours a day means that you may have to cruise in the rain. Be prepared to cut the trip short- early- and go the the end by road, its easy. Battering on through a blizzard just to get the boat back on time is a sure way of putting partners off boating for ever, seen it happen.
  8. 4 metre total @ 60 amps I would use 16mm sq cable at least. Its not worth short cutting, the charger will see the volts drop on thin cables and shut down early, in which case you have wasted money buying a good charger. That 8.2 mm sq is not a size, are you saying the cable is 7mm OD over the insulation? If so it sounds like its only 6 mm sq at best! Too thin.
  9. That spec sounds exactly like what I used on mine, zinc Phosphate first, black second. Ask Sherwin-Williams but it would seem to me to be the same stuff. They will sell you the paint, you will only need the black not the zinc primer, and tell you when it is made. You can then collect from works in Bolton, or Decorators Supply co will order but its much dearer and plus delivery charges. The black comes in 4 ltr (3+1 hardner) cans, you will need 2. Last I bought was around £10 a ltr.
  10. I'm just glad that it wasn't me working outside in the bad weather. I made sure, 8000 miles away!
  11. Good point, got Narrow minded there, sorry if I am fouled up.
  12. Scrub hard with white spirit, epoxy 2 pack will not wash off. I suspect that the makers like to hook you into their product, but epoxy is just epoxy, it seems to be compatible across the board. Once you have used bitumastics you lose all the advantages of 2 pack, like 10 to 20 year life. Ordinary blacking will not adhere well to 2 pack either. If you want 2 pack at a sensible price ask Sherwin-Williams in Bolton, used them for years. My hull has done 20 years with 2 touch ups only using their epoxy and it is perfect. Sam
  13. Definitely BMC 1.8D. But the belt will be non standard as the crank pulley is not the same size as the original, but a fabricated one to drive the raw water pump as well.
  14. There are many BMC engines, old truck engines, various Land Rover engines and several Taxi engines, all will take some different parts. Can the poster please send a photo taken straight down on top of the engine from which we can be sure? 1,5 BMC diesels from Austin Cambridges and J series vans to the 1.8 Sherpa all take 1/8 BSP (British Standard Pipe ) thread oil switches. Sounds like its a Land Rover engine, most of these had 3/8 BSP thread, possibly a 2.25 litre unit.
