  2. The installation/user manual for the range is on the Thetford Marine website. After reading it, I now know how I've been misusing ours.
  3. After a bit of reading around, the ruling seems to be that any new installation of instant water heaters have to be 'room-sealed'. But there seems to be confusion regarding the approval for use in boats. As such it appears that only the Morco ones are approved. Surely though if the unit is room sealed and fitted by a gas registered installer then it should pass the BSS. Mmmmm - perhaps there are soldered internal connections which might be a fail on the BSS.

  5. I passed my 11+, but found these questions different! Went about 5 for most. Why not ask the right questions to get the right answers?
  6. If you like the boat and the price is right then it doesn't really matter. Negotiate your price and whatever you perceive to save, spend on getting the boat getting to how you want it to be.
  7. Exactly as I thought. thanks
  8. Just a quickie. I am about to fit solar and have an Outback FklexMax60. The manual says the system must be earthed! Do I just ignore the earth connections and follow the diagram on the bimble site? TIA
  9. They are shown parallelled in a picture on the customer feedback bit on alibaba
  10. My 5 x 110Ah FLA batteries are near the end of their life and the more I research Lifepo4 batteries they are definitely on my wish list. i found this on youtube this morning which shows promise. They haven't fully tested them yet - but has to be worth keeeping an eye on. Can only find them on alibaba.com here https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/deep-cycle-12v-volt-lithium-battery_60644251572.html?spm=a2700.9114905.0.0.Q1CKrF Got a quote for 409$ (£296) each and 329$ (£238) express delivery to the UK. I would get 3 off (300Ah) for £1126 including delivery - bargain or what? My present charger (came with the boat) is a Victron Centaur 20 amp, which I think is a bit low on power for the lithium's quick charge capabilities.
  11. I am in the process of cleaning up my battery terminals and the general compartment. I have 1 starter and 5 leisure batteries. The leisure batteries are presently connected together as Method 2 on the smartgauge site http://www.smartgauge.co.uk/batt_con.html. Would it be of considerable worth to rewire the batteries to equalise the resistance using method 3? Downside is that it will require 2 studs and 10 cables all the same length. Method 4 (thanks to smileypete) may be better. Trouble is I can't work out how to connect 5 batteries and get each one to have the same overall length of cable. I'm sure it's not too difficult - just can't get my head round it. Any help appreciated.

  13. I agree - they look far too thin, I will remove the wires when I clean up the battery terminals. If I ever need to jump the starter, I will use proper heavy duty jump leads.
  14. Thanks for the info re the BM2. I don't know what the croc clips are for they were there when i bought the boat. Strangely they are doth connected to the starter battery +ve (left of picture). Perhaps to be used as an emergency jump to the starter battery? Yes, I intend to clean and grease all the battery terminals and generally clean the whole battery compartment. Thanks to alll
  15. Hi All I have a bank of 5 x 110A leisure batteries and have acqiuired a Nasa BM2 battery monitor. This has a 200 amp shunt and a cable presumably rated for 200 amps. However, the cable supplied is considerably thinner than the cable from the batteries. I have a 2kw inverter. Questions is. Can I just fit alarger cable to the shunt? I am not going to pull more than 200 amps from the batteries. TIA
  16. Do the research. Look om you tube, Its all on the net, Enjoy the experience. Cheers

  18. I agree. Our local pub had been there for over a hundred years. some new houses built and now the pub can't play music after 10pm, ridiculous.
  19. The Times could have got a better picture - not taken in summer with nobodys stove lit!! Great, I'm sure the local land based residents will jump at the idea.
  20. Any comments on this article in today's Times? https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/smoke-on-the-water-from-canal-boat-stoves-turns-river-cam-into-shanghai-njlvdb0hr
  21. Yes, I intend to do that. The surveyor discovered quite a lot of condensation in the cold water tank area. thanks for all the advice.
  22. Pity you can't do the L & L. This site reviews most of the pubs along its length http://www.towpathtreks.co.uk/llc/canal_pub_guide.html
  23. Just an update, I used two angled brackets fitted just inside the diagonally opposite legs, screwed right through tiling and cal-sil board. Seems really secure. regards
  24. BEngo Thanks for the advice. The fabricated bracket inside the leg seems a good idea. Would you put one on each leg? The vent grill is metal and will be fitted to the 25mm cal-sil with a 10mm air gap. i am actually seeing this as a bonus in that it will pull a lot of the condensation out of the cold water tank area. More good advice. Thanks
