  1. You will have very little success sealing from the outside. Sorry.... thats just the way it is. Silicone is the devil on boats, it is very short term and will always fail.....as you have found........ Unfortunatly, nothing will now stick to where you put the silicone.... nothing sticks to silicone. The only way to remove it is by abrasion.... sand the place where it was. Abormast BR is by far the best thing for sealing frames to GRP. Remove the frames, clean up the surfaces. Mask off the area. Coat the frame with Abormast BR and fit into place. It will ouse out a bit. Clean up with paper towel and white spirit. Walk away...... It will last decades and will not leak. Sikaflex has its places, but ultimately it is a glue. Glue your frames in and when you need them out again you won't be able to get them out...... ever!!! Well not without destroying them.
  2. That is my experience too. Older boats often have everything going the same way as reversing gearboxes were not commonly available. Mine is 1966, a twin diesel setup where everything rotates the same way and I have two identical props. High power reversing gearboxes (where the output turns the opposite way to the input when in forwards drive) were simply not available at that time. The prop walk is noticeable but not a problem... you get to learn to use it to your advantage. Deano
  3. I understand you may get a drop of water in if you do that, so best practice says you need to drill another hole next to it so the water will have somewhere to run out as well.
  4. Ledgend!! Thanks, I was looking for a title with something about an A127 in!!!!
  5. I know I should be able to find this, but I have spent the last 2 hours looking with no success. :-( There was a thread about modifying an A127 alternator by replacing the regulator with one from a tractor that had an orange lead. This was then connected through a resistor to the battery +ve. Help!! I can't find it. Thanks. Dean
  6. I have one and intend to use it this season. If the marina don't like the idea, I'll spend my money elsewhere!!!
  7. Once you have the worst of it out. (I use a Pella pump) Some newspapers can be used to absorb the last dregs. I was amazed at how efficient they were. You can always use them to light the fire with!!!
  8. B&Q only do straight lines and 90 degree angles. My local one does anyway.
