Totally agree! BBQ Xmas turkey is incredible! Your grill needs a lid to really do proper BBQ, that way you can roast as well as grill. Add a digital instant read meat thermometer and no worries about Armadillo cooking. And no need to start in the oven, right with you there! It's all how you set up your coals.

I have one of these grills and it's brilliant! As already mentioned, I cook everything on it if not windy or peeing down with rain.

The go anywhere is a small compact grill and with the small chimney starter, a great bit of kit. They even make a gas version of this little compact grill if you prefer a gas version. The Smokey Joe is a bit larger and the Jumbo Joe is larger still, but still great little grills to have and after they're cold can be stored away without taking up too much space. You can roast and grill on all these models and a digital instant read meat thermometer is another essential item to have......with BBQ, always cook to internal temperatures and never to time, as this is the way to do it to get mindblowing yummy results where everyone will talk about it for a long time!

Hahaha! Yep, you can get a bit carried away with those accessories! I have a 57cm kettle and a 47cm smokey mountain cooker and a few 'extra bits' The rotisserie is flippin' brill! My mate has one but this is a pricey attachement! I cook all my chickens 'beer can style' in my kettle and always get very yummy results! but the rotisserie aint just for chickens only My eventual boat design will be able to store these.

Hi Jonny! Huge BBQ fan here and I cook on mine a hell of a lot! If you want a decent high quality grill then look at anything by Weber. Their stuff is fantastic and lasts ages! And the aftersales is second to none! Yes, they're more expensive, but you really do get what you pay for here. And one essential accessory for a charcoal grill is a chimney starter.....its the best and fastest way to start your coals! And ALWAYS use outdoors.....dont bother if its windy or peeing down with rain!

Hi Raymonh, This is a very interesting comment, approx how old is your Miele washer dryer?? These machines a pretty sensitive and monitor everything......they're full of electronics, the newer ones expecially. To hear this running off a Victron inverter and Travelpower without hiccping, is a great piece of info.

I had a holiday on this canal last summer and it was just amazing, such a beautiful canal and setting. I went with Becon Park Boats who couldn't do enough for me and were just fantastic. The boats are fitted out to a incredibly high standard and are extremely well maintained. I hired a narrow boat for this canal as it's a bit neat for a wide beam, but they are available to hire if prefered.

Hi folks, found this thread after searching. Looking at multi fuel wood/coal stove choices with built in ovens and have found two contenders, one being the Bubble 4B and the other was Chilli Penguin's Hungry Pengin or Fat Penguin and was wondering if anyone has them installed that could give me a bit of a review on them on how easy to light they are, how easy to empty the ash pans will they burn all night. The ovens should be decent and to control them would be down to fire management and vent control.....but would be happy to hear what you've cooked in/on them as well. I cook a lot of proper BBQ, where you put the lid on and you have the right amount of fuel and vent control to keep the temps stable, so you have a charcoal fired oven and my life the results are amazing! Anyway, I'm favouring the Bubble as it has a larger oven, a decent sized firebox and built in thermometer. This wont be my only source of cooking or heating but for sure something I could use in the winter time to cook with as it will be lit anyway. It will be for a 60 x 10 wide beam fulltime live aboard which is in the early stages of design. Huge thanks

Webasto have their Thermacall wotsit and Eperspacher have their own system which came out fairly recently as I was chatting to a guy on the Eperspacher stand at the boat show last week. Both seem pretty decent systems as long as you have some kind of data connection or reliable WiFi where you are. Edit: Applogies OP wanted one to retro fit. ?

Hi WotEver, It's one of the full gas versions which is 100cm wide and has a gas main oven, gas hob and tall electric oven and uses 2.6kw. Many thanks.

Hi Alan, Thanks for your kind pearls of wisdom here and yes I've just seen my embarassing type o.......I meant of course 1mtr wide or 100cm to move a decimal point. ☺️ The total load electric wise on the Rangemaster is 2.6kw so 10.8amps, thats with the electric side of the oven on, the main oven will be gas as will the hob section. The genset will be a proper installed one and my electrical demand will be correct as I really dont want to screw that up and as you quite rightly say, I'll be doing this only once as it will be my full time home and it will be a 24v system. There will be solar as well to assist with keeping the batteries topped up. It's literally in the early stages of design.....but for me personally, the galley needs to be half decent as I spend a fair bit of time there.

This is a great topic as I'm in the early stages of desiging my live aboard wide beam. I'm a keen cook and also like a back up plan and am seriously considering a Rangemaster 100mm wide oven. The model I'm looking at has one large gas oven and one tall smaller electric oven which runs off a 13amp plug so will be 2kw. (Genset onboard) If I have a issue with the gas oven or be a real numpty and run out of gas, at least I can cook in the electric oven.....if I run out gas, I'm aware I wont be able to use the gas hob and will resort to the multifuel stove! I've used the Belling ovens on hire boats and they're ok and cooked roast dinners and other decent meals in them...but for me personally, I'd prefer a larger double oven and a 5 ring gas hob.

Hi folks, I'm hoping some of you nice people on here work in the financial industry and will be able to answer my question. I want to commission a new boat in approx 4-5 years to live on and be my full time residence. Getting the funds together is for sure my biggest hurdle as the deposit required for a marine mortgage is much more than bricks and mortar one. I'm presently paying my landlords mortgage, which isn't ideal. I've hired many boats in the past in all seasons and I know this is the way I want to live. Now I've done a bit of digging and cant seem to find a proper answer to see if I can use a 'help to buy ISA' to assist me with a purchase of a vessel.....I did find that I can take the money out of this ISA at any time but wont get the extra cash bonus from the govenment and that you need a solicitor to convey the money, so thats a way of getting more money out of you. I'm sure theres poss some kind of claus to prevent you from using this system for a live aboard boat purchase but I thought it was worth asking. Huge thanks ?

Hi Kate, I am too looking for a residential mooring in Herts area......I've learned not to use the word 'residential' and use either 'frequent visitor' or 'high user' As long as you will take your boat out and not just have it parked 365 days. It seems most places like 30 days or so and you may switch births as well. I'm having more trouble as I'll be in a widebeam. I've had to go further away towards Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire where there are very few moorings but not 'residential' It seems the best way to do it is to have a very good friend or family member where you can say you live and get all your post sent there. Thats how I'm going to do it and my boat wont even be started until 2018/2019! Residential moorings are like rocking horse poo and if you get one, i'll be over the moon for you! I've been trying for 6 months!
