What on earth did we do before Google? Got to admit, I didn't know there was such a 'thing' as splitting the infinitive till I read it here CW is so educational

I think I did it

So now I've looked it up how, where, when, and not to split the infinitive, how on earth am I going to remember? I need to quickly remember!

Think the commemoration was because most of the boatmen who gave their lives don't have their name commemorated on village war memorials, or schools, because of their itinerant life style. In my opinion I think a whole lot of history could have been provided, such as the men having their boating skills deployed on canals overseas. Most people don't know about the ladies who took over from the men on the barges, and how they risked their lives manoeuvring explosives and ammunition throughout the waterways for the war effort. Seeing that it was the centenary, it would have been the perfect time for their stories to be told, generating interest and pride for the benefit of the waterways.

It's becoming unwieldy. For every comment, that's a cell/line filled up in a database, poor thing it's choking to death.

Seriously, I'm not one to criticise C&RT, but I do think they could have covered this a lot better on their website, three small paragraphs I don't think cuts it.
