  1. Trip Advisor as far I know (not that I frequent their website) doesn't appear to have a problem. Though I do think they are aware of rival businesses posting negative comments. I can't remember if I've ever added negative comments about a business, I know I've written quite a few and after writing I've discarded the post after feeling better when I've put the annoyance into words.
  2. I've heard about this prenomination where someone goes to sleep and wakes up speaking Chinese.... never thought I'd come across such a case
  3. Gas oven? I've to turn our gas oven knob to 'full' before releasing it after ignition, otherwise the flame goes out.
  4. John follows both 'tribes', but coming from Salford I'm in the ManU camp. It'll be interesting
  5. How on 'Earth' do you make coffee in bed? Thank you for the tips about having a job description, this could be subject to negotiation during the Liverpool/ManU game today

  7. Brilliant advice and it could save you a fortune.
  8. We've lived permanently on a Liverpool 58ft semi trad for 2.5 years now, I know we haven't experienced any other boat, but we're still delighted with ours We've spent a fortune on upgrading it, solars, part new fitout, and bits... but we're happy.
  9. There're a given ... who can get upset with a Muppet? Thank you very much for all your advice. We won't be ready to install it yet for a month or so, I'm just planning for success! There's so many good tips and ideas here ?
  10. That's good info, thank you! The 1kW is on the shopping list now Don't know how big the tank is, it's now encased again in cupboards. But I found a picture from a log book at the time the boat was being fitted out. I wondered about that , guess we'll be safe if we get the heater from Midland Chandlers?
  11. Thanks for the heads up Think a blowlamp is out of the question though as the tank is moulded in polystyrene, it doesn't have loose jacket. That's kind of you to search, the top one looks the right one. Cheers
  12. Just googled 'inconel sheathed' - that's a very good point. The 1kW would suffice for the two us! Turning off the water pump and opening hot taps, I would never have thought of that. Thank you Thanks for the tips Bizzard - perfect That's a bit gobbledegook to me, but OH is nodding your advice is clear Thank you
  13. Our boat for some reason doesn't have an immersion heater fitted. We initially thought the calorifier didn't have a place to install one, but thanks to Mrsmelly for the suggestion, we dismantled the back of the boat to take another look. At the top of the upright tank/calorifier, there looks to be a 'disc/bung' where an immersion heater would fit. Water is normally heated by the engine or by the Mikuni diesel central heating boiler. We're thinking of buying either a 1Kw or 2Kw immersion heater from Midland Chandlers, but which one? OH is thinking of installing the immersion element in the calorifier, then getting an electrician to wire it in. Are there any tips or warnings we should know about? Thank you muchly
  14. I've done that, the legs ended up being 12ft long

  17. That brought back a memory of me saving up my laddered ones for my brother. He'd take them back to barracks with him after army leave. He and his army mates wore them when out on manoeuvres. Poor dad never understood, he never understood why men would use shampoo and hand cream either
  18. Lovely to cross bows and have a chat with you, sorry we only got to wave to your wife. It's brilliant to put a face to an internet name. John thought the Riversmeet vet's building was brilliant, more so than me, it's a huge Victorian ex-railways station building. It's pretty solid, and built to last for another couple hundred years!
  19. We got the results back this morning, and thankfully Rusty doesn't have pancreatitis He's got a touch of colitis, and IBS in the small intestines, with tummy upsets being possibly triggered by an allergy, which is increasing by age. This is could be damage from when he had parvo as a pup. His symptoms could also be triggered by stress (he's got chronic separation anxiety). We climbed 5 locks the other day, and he got really stressed, as he normally does, when one of us is off the boat (he's 6 years old so I doubt we can stop this now), but surprisingly his tummy was fine. The vet (Jordan) phoned, and explained the way forward with his treatment. He's to go on a hypoallergic diet for 8 weeks, with nothing else to eat, no bacon rind at breakfast, and I'm guessing if all is ok at the end of the 8 weeks, other food and added. While we're cruising, she going to give us antibiotics just in case he has a flare-up. We'll be returning in 2 months for the vet to check him out. We cannot fault the vets at Riversmeet, and they're so handy for the canal, plus the vets very sympathetic to continual cruisers.
