  1. What is the legality of exploring "non-navigable" rivers? A bit of googling seems to suggest no clear yay or nay either way with the possibility for agro. The canoeists seem keen though.
  2. Just around the corner pretty much from me. Would be remiss of me not to have a float up. Hopefully they can keep the local in check.
  3. I've recently bought a boat from David Mawby at Castle Marina and am now mooring in the marina. I can only echo what has already been said, everyone is friendly and security is good. The local run up and down the Nottingham and Beeston is good practice and Castle Lock is handy to practice locking which I have been doing since I got my boat. This week I've been up the Trent as far as Sawley and up the Soar as far as Kegworth, this should have taken little more than a day but I got stuck for 24h waiting for river levels to drop in Beeston and then had to wait overnight at Cranfleet waiting for the flood lock to be opened. In short, in my admittedly short experience I would recommend Nottingham Castle Marina however if the River Level is up on the Trent you can be a bit trapped.
  4. I'm hoping to do this stretch myself either this weekend or next week, It will be my first run on a River so liking this advice, keep it coming. I've got my anchor (with chain and rope) and life jackets (mine and the pets) ready just in-case.
  5. Got one as well, only had a brief test with a new aerial and a dvd but the picture and sound seemed fine to me. Edit: You don't look at sound.
  6. Saturday was my first time out just after the boat handover so I went down to Beeston and back as a first run. On Sunday I took my Dad out and went the other way down to Meadow Lane and back to get some lock practice at Castle Lock. Having lots of fun so far, just need more practice.
  7. Thanks, First steps with boating but I'm liking it already. Just got to introduce the Dog and Cats for extra fun.
  8. Been reading the forum for a while and just picked up my first boat today. Thought I better sign up and share some pictures of our first time out and the boat in general. Had a little scrape against the wall at Beeston lock whilst turning around but otherwise seem to be getting the hang of it.
