  1. No it is hard vinyl panels but as I said I have decided, if I change it, I won't use tiles
  2. Some good ideas thanks.... I think I shall go down the non-tile route
  3. Our boat has a shower cubicle, all very neat, clean and tidy but it has vinyl panel walls which actually I don't mind but hate the colour. I was told that if the surface was 'keyed' I could tile over them but 1) it seems a lot of work and 2) maintenance would increase. I think the simplest thing would be to panel over the existing ones as there are some more attractive designs around and it would cost approx £120. Does anyone have any comments or preferences?
  4. We use tea lights and candles but only at night when moored, more for effect than anything, bit like a log fire. The tea lights go into small coloured glass holders and the candles are already in a glass or a tin. Tea lights can vary in price depending on scent but £1 shop or Ikea have good buys on plain ones. I have a friend in a local charity shop who 'saves' me any that come in and usually charges about 50p to £1 depending how big. Last week I bought a 5inch high one in a glass with a metal lid in various shades of blue. There was a barcode label underneath with a price of £7.50!! TK Maxx also sell them but even at their prices I don't think you get many bargains even when you see the original price!!!!
  5. We have a cross bed on ours 2/3 1/3. Two slatted rails pull out and lay on top of a rail on the opposite side. Four drawers underneath with the calorifier so nice and warm in winter and bone dry. In the day time we just push the slats back and lift the 1/3 on top of the other then put cover and cushions and so it can still be used if we want, mostly by the dog!! We also have a pullman and the only change I would make is to have a pull out drawer as it seems a waste of space and you can't have too much storage.
  6. Well it seems odd that it only appears to be on that stretch of Canal. There are plenty of other canals which pass through city centres let alone the full network but you don't hear much about people drowning in those. Then again....... I still believe Diana was murdered...
  7. er... thanks but what is a Green Thingy??? (dreadful thoughts come to mind) Didn't it end up getting burnt in the Great Fire of Saatchi??

  9. Tracy Emin's 'My Bed' springs to mind.........as does the Emperor's New Clothes!!!!
  10. Over the last few years there have been literally dozens of bodies found the canals around Manchester, there was even a documentary on TV about it but the police have said virtually non are 'suspicious'...... although the locals, and relatives of the dead, believe it is someone they have named 'the Pusher'
  11. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder........but then again it is Liverpool
  12. Actually that is probably what I am afraid of, falling rather than just the height. From as early as I can remember I have always had quite bad dreams where I fall so it may something psychological........ but then I also had a dreadful childhood so I have a few other phobias as well......
  13. er........ morbid to ask....... but has anyone actually ever fallen off??
  14. I am absolutely terrified of heights. We once went on a driving tour of France and when we approached the Pont De Normandie I just froze and stopped the car. We had to swap over drivers whilst a lot of impatient french drivers honked their horns. I can't drive over the Severn Bridge or the Barton Bridge near Manchester. The weird thing is I am ok flying and have been in a couple of helicopters, once over the Grand Canyon and another over New York and I was fine. I think it has something to do with having your feet on the ground but being high up. I couldn't do the last bit of the Eiffel tower and, if you are scared of heights be careful if you ever go to the Imperial War Museum in Manchester. It is designed with three interlocking 'shards' to represent land, water and air. The first two are ok but you go up in a lift to the 'Air' platform. When you get out only about 2% is the metal platform, I turned straight round and fought my way straight back into the lift!!!!..... ps...... having said that I would still love to go over the Pontcysyllte Aquaduct......
  15. Does anyone have any comments (+ or -) on using Oil Free Radiators e.g.: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dimplex-Cadiz-Electric-Free-Radiator/dp/B002G09OXQ/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1486122648&sr=8-4&keywords=dimplex+oil+free+2kw+heater

  17. Called in at the local Homebase on Saturday, (they have been taken over by some large Aussie firm) and were having a 'clearance' sale which, as we all know, is a euphemism for buying in loads of c**p and selling it off supposedly cheaply.... Anyway they did have what I thought was a good buy... a 30mtr length of paracord braid in 4 different colourways for about £4.99 which, considering they sell .6m lengths for £7.49. I have searched their website but cannot find a link so maybe it is just one of those 'special' items..... anyway thought it worth posting

  20. I got to thinking about what Pue eats, which is just about anything, so yesterday I tried her with some roasted brocoli. She rolled it round her mouth a bit, then spat it out, and then picked it up and ate it. Today we tried her with baked sweet potato, cottage cheese, avacado and mango chutney. She ate all four. As we are veggies I am going to keep trying her with different things, just for fun (ps..... I do have a list of things she can't have before anyone reports me to the RSPCA )
  21. Well that's what we thought. Justin, the service engineer, said that the unit is in excellent condition and looks like it has hardly been used which was confirmed by Ed at fcmarine who knows the boat because coincidently he went to see it about two years ago. The previous owners were having problems starting it and he replaced the wires for thicker ones as he felt that was the problem. Prior to that he said the owners hadn't used it much. It was all a bit weird because ED advertises on fleabay and his listing shows a positive comment from the previous owners.(which I only found out afterwards) I don't think we have anything to lose at £80 with a 12mth warranty especially as, if it does go again, we will probably go for a Webasto and Ed said he would knock the £80 off the price of supplying/fitting a new one. I hope you are following this as there will be questions later.......
  22. Well I spoke with Mukuni this week & they said they would sell me a used one for £100 + vat & postage. Then I spoke with Ed at FCMarine and he could sell me one for £80 with 12 mth warranty so at the moment I think that is the option we will take. It will give us time to decide what to do in the long run. Other than the control box, which I am sure Justin has tried everything to test it, he said the unit was in fine fettle even though it hadn't been serviced for 2 yrs it didn't even need the glo plug changing. So I reakon £80 is worth a go.
  23. try Ed Shiers at fc marine www.fc-marine.co.uk/Welcome.html he has an excellent knowledge & reputation
  24. See, I am not called Numpty for nothing. My boat is 12v plus inverter
  25. Looks like I will probably have to replace my Mukuni MX40. I don't think it worthwile spending £300 on a new control unit. I have seen this : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Eberspacher-D5-LC-Complete-Kit-Diesel-Heater-Horsebox-Boat-Motorhome-Camper-/122299598725 Any comments/recommendations?
