  1. I have just thought of my main qualification - The Sage and I went to the same school(I very briefly and some years earlier), old boys network perhaps? That should get NBW going

  4. Mr 99 makes my point well about semi trads and boats generally for that matter. What is the point of semi trads?, are they not a complete waste of space? this is a genuine question as I have absolutely no experience of them.............avoid them like the plague if truth be told
  5. If you anticipate claiming against the guarantee DON'T take it anywhere else than the original supplier/fitter as it will invalidate the guarantee I suspect:0
  6. As I said in a previous post, no one, including CRT, have many fixed ideas of how this will all pan out. This is a very good thing as it allow us all to mould the group to serve all our needs. For future reference I am not only a boater but have vast experience of local government as an elected member and over 40 years working in the voluntary and non profit sector, so I was not just chosen as a boater if I can find it(IT is NOT my strength) I will put my application/CV up on here. I am sure that it will wind a few peeps up principally because I don't moor or live within the region.
  7. Indeed the price seems very high! it is a semi trad after all and possibly a slightly(or more than slightly?) dodgy shell builder. It is often the case that dodgy shell builders and dodgy boat fitters go hand in hand and as the Sage has said £1000 /foot for a potentially dodgy budget semi trad to possibly more than 'new' money or at least not far away. Looks kind of old fashioned as well with the two tone woodwork?
  8. Are you going up the 21 and back down again in the morning? that should add around 4 hours to your trip
  9. As there is only one small post in response to a battery query this morning I am concerned that the Sage of Tring is sickening for something or has writers cramp
  10. Rather strangely two of our boats are moored adjacent to Phyllis May of Narrow Dog fame. Sorry I slightly underquoted the costs of our/my moorings. Our two full length boats moored between Brewood and Wheaton Aston and my Dunkirk Little Ship on a swinging mooring at Walton on the Naze (although it is currently in the boat shed) £2400

  12. We have currently got three boats, each serving a particular need, one for posing, one for living on and one for going on lumpy water. Altogether they cost less than £60000 and cost around £2000 pa in total to moor. Perhaps you should consider the more than one boat plan as sure as eggs is eggs you won't safely satisfy all the needs you describe with just one boat, in any event your needs will not doubt change as you gain experience. The for sale ads are littered with nearly new boats owned by folks that thought they could square the circle.
  13. From your description it seems down at the back if as you say the uxter plate is 2 inches below the water whilst moored. Ideally it should be a touch above the water(this varies from boat to boat) when moored so that when under way it kisses the water. Is your water tank in the fore end? if so is it full? perhaps there is more water elsewhere under the floor?. Perhaps a member of the great and good of the forum who is local to you might pop along and chat? as two heads are much better than one in all cases, especially one like this with no one answer.
  14. I /we don't live aboard but we cruise extensively from Easter to the end of October. We do any washing about once a month in a dustbin and use a posser. It is a fallacy that you need to drink loads of water as you get almost enough from your food and I drink gallons of tea and beer. We wash up in a bucket, probably once a day if not less. Dish washers indeed, Bah humbug!
  15. Well, we filled our tanks, 1200 litres, the easter before last and they are still nowhere near empty. Still we don't wash much, either clothes nor ourselves although the Great Helmsman washes her hair every day, the wasterel, using a dipper and we use around a container (25 litres) per 3/4 days cruising and perhaps two shower bags every now and again when it is hot.

  17. You have got a shower on Reg? pretty poor show
  18. Are you sure about this, 5 loads of washing because you have been away for a couple of days, it is not a house, it is a boat, what on earth do you find to wash? sorry to appear to be a bit negative and deviate from the path of virtue.
  19. And the flue pipe looks too close to the lining as it gets towards the top. Where is Smiffy when you need him?
  20. You could always have your Easter banter at Foxton. Plenty of moorings on the Harborough Arm and I am sure Tony Matts would enjoy your company or why not join HNBC and come and join the fun and frolics in the parish Hall. Avoid at all costs the Foxton Locks, the Great Helmsman paid nearly £4.00 a pint last Easter, shame really as it appears to be a good pub with good range of proper beer and seemingly good food, we obviously could not afford to eat
  21. There are other air cooled engines besides Listers
