  1. We're at Cleeve Prior at the moment, heading upstream. In the orange here at the moment but I think the levels are going down.
  2. All the Llangollen is interesting in different ways. I like Ellesmere and Whitchurch towns as much as Llangollen and the aqueduct. And don't miss the walk up to Chirk Castle ( you can do this without having to pay to go in the castle itself).
  3. This is the book of the TV programme: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Flower-Gloucester-Bill-Grundy/dp/0246640189
  4. Clara has dropped in price by £3500 in the time I've taken to read these posts ! Now £21500 on Apollo Duck: https://narrowboats.apolloduck.co.uk/boat/narrow-boats-butty-for-sale/734965
  5. Yes, it's the same bridge. I remember it being rebuilt in the early 1970's !! It's a very busy little lane that's a cut-through on the south side of Nuneaton. In fact the road is so busy they had to build the new bridge alongside the old one to avoid closing the road, and a short section of the old road still survives.
  6. If it's Cov canal, is it Griff Lane Bridge No17 ?
  7. Just to come back quickly to this photo - it is taken at Croxley Mill, and Toucan is one of the boats that WWCTS hired from BW. BW 'repossessed' most of their boats in 1968, but Pete Harrison tells me that Toucan continued carrying with WW to September 1969. In the second half of 1969 it was paired with Dipper, so the above photo is likely to have been taken during that period. Thanks to Pete H for clarifying this.
  8. Just for future reference, the solution I eventually found for this was to select "desktop site" on the phone, then I could see the 'sign out' option.
  9. My guess is that it's the BCN house at Goscote, Walsall, which was torched within a few hours of it becoming vacant in the 1980's.
  10. Pontymoile junction house: https://bidx1.com/en/en-gb/auction/property/90167
  11. I agree with you Alan. It doesn't look like a GUCCC motor. Maybe @Pluto can tell us if he has any other photos of Suttons taken on the same day.
  12. The top photo at Hawkesbury is 1970 or before, as the last Blue Line load was late in 1970. I've not seen that photo before, Mike, is that one of your own ? EDIT: Alan Faulkner's article about B&MCCC in Narrow Boat summer 2008 says that the last loads of coal taken down south by B&MCCC were at Easter 1969, so I think the photo must be before that date.
  13. Birmingham Street bridge, Oldbury loop. Seen from Judge Close.
  14. Thanks for the quick responses everyone. Well done for the identification - I knew this was the best place to ask ! Streetview usefully has a photo from 2012 which confirms it as well.
  15. I'm currently scanning a box of photo prints from the Hugh Compton Collection for the RCHS online archive. This photo is entitled 'Oxford Canal 2013 Thrupp Roundham Lock'. However it clearly isn't the Oxford Canal as it is a wide lock. Can anyone identify the location please ? Thanks in advance.
  16. Thanks @Derek R. for posting all the extra information about Yarmouth. It's better than the current advert ! I remember when she was all black too.
  17. Hi Matty. I was referring to the area west of Long Itchington.
  18. My guess, as I walk parts of this section fairly regularly, is that there are about 6 wide boats in this area. But whether any of them are over 12' beam I don't know. Most of them don't move much anyway.
  19. That will probably be what is called 'resin-bonded gravel'. You are correct in saying that it's used (in heavily used areas usually) to give a softer and more rural-looking surface which still has most of the durability of tarmac. It's expensive though.
  20. Ah, the same problem as me. For me, rotating the phone doesn't rotate the webpage. Thanks for the suggestion though.
  21. I can't find any way of viewing the website in landscape format !
  22. Bognor has been for sale for some time, and on the face of it seems a lot of boat for the £35k asking price. But the price and the time it has been on the market suggests that it needs a lot of work.
  23. Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't appear to have Ctrl on the keyboard on my phone.
  24. It looks like the same problem as me Alan. All the page was bigger than yesterday - probably just 25 percent bigger though. And I hadn't done any updates or changed any settings.
