  2. Emily? Can I ask, have you ever spent any time at all on a narrowboat? I'm just curious.
  3. I bet you didn't think you'd get to use that word again so quickly eh Carl?
  4. Typical NBW reporting. The 'threat of eviction" came well over a year and a half ago actually. The council now in fact appear to be taking a much softer stance. Click
  5. We set out from Gayton on the 25th July and arrived in Peterborough on Thursday 30th and whilst there is weed, there was never enough to cause any hold up. We never had to open the weed hatch once. The only small problem we had was being held up for four hours at Wadenhoe through a power outage. Apart from having to dodge a few downpours I have to say that the Nene was beautiful. I suppose it's a matter of perception mixed with a little bit of luck eh? Just to add, whilst the Nene was a breeze, the Northampton Arm - especially between locks 13 and 14 - was like the Everglades in places!!
  6. You could hire from Wyvern shipping at Linslade or from another hire base on the GU (Gayton Marina for instance) and tackle the Thames Ring. Take a look... Thames Ring
  7. I'll maybe leave a trip down that way till the autumn when the weed will hopefully have gone. Great avatar btw.
  8. Hi MP. I'm resurrecting this old thread to ask you (or anyone else for that matter) what the weed is like now on the Middle Levels. Is it still as bad as when this thread started? The Nene sounds okay according to Sue (nb No problem)but what lurks beyond Stanground Lock?
  9. Thanks for the info Sue. We will be heading down the Nene ourselves at the end of next week and I was wondering what the weed situation was on the upper stretches. Have you had to get down and dirty in the weed hatch very often so far?
  10. Tried it a week after it re-opened and the food was just mediocre imho. However the service and the beer was very good so we tried it again around a month ago and I'm afraid to say that the food hadn't improved much. We found the menu quite limited. There were four of us and we each tried a different main course and we all agreed that we wouldn't eat there again. We would call in there for a drink though as the staff are freindly and welcoming and the beer appeared well kept.
  11. I think that many would put foward the point that there is a strong possibility that the rope could fall into the water and end up fouling the propeller. Edited for spelling.
  12. I've splashed out and ordered both these items. Thanks everyone.
  13. Up to say £25.00 give or take a few bob.
  14. Oh yeah. Anyone recommend a suppier of a reasonably priced fan?
  15. Happens to me all the time. Especially with the missus.
  16. Can anyone point me to a supplier of a 12 volt fan for my boat that I can plug into the 12v supply. Conversely, if they only come with a cigar socket plug on them, is there such a thing as an adaptor to use with a 2 pin socket. Thanks in anticipation.
  17. I only ever put the Bio Magic in after a pump out and sometimes it can be a month or so between them as we too use the boat for weekends and holidays. We have never had a pong problem. The way I see it is that once the friendly bacteria are thriving in the tank, there should be no need to keep adding the stuff. The cynical side of me suspects that the makers advise adding more of the product frequently simply because it means they will sell more.
  18. We saw two snakes merrily swimming along the cut at Yardley on the GU on Monday.
  19. There are two sorts, the standard and the extra concentrated. with the standard stuff it needs 50ml and with the concentrated just 15 or 25 ml. It doesn't really depend ont the size of your tank because all it does is feed the friendly bacteria which multiply readily in any size of tank. Edited to say that the above amounts are what you put in after each pump out.

  22. The fact that he says he didn't realise he had to licence the boat would make me a tad suspicious I have to say. As regards getting him to swear an affidavit being good proof of ownership, maybe you should just ring your solicitor and ask him whether that is the case. Good luck anyway. Edited for a spelling mistake.
