  6. Arguably it may be illegal anyway. The water company would want to ensure your connection and installation complies with the applicable regs, They may not permit the connection to be other than would be achieved using a normal household external tap, which should include a non-return valve. This should be indicated in the agreement between the water company and your provider (marina, C&RT water point, etc.).

  9. typically mains power transmission uses high voltages like 250KV for long distances and 33KV for more local distribution, for the very reasons cited above. It is simply quite impractical to do as you propose. And if you have such high capacity DC cables (like welding cables) to suit the load they would be very dangerous in case of a short or an accidental contact between + and - . Think what happens in welding - it would be similar.
  10. do you have a heated shelter? If not you won't be very successful at this time of year.
  11. If you use MSExcel Drawing function you can easily draw a narrowboat in elevation and then colour it in, with glazed portholes and windows. Then make up your signwriting using MSWord special effects and import into Excel. Excel drawing is great fun and I use it for several hours a week on various amateur design projects. If you are interested i can send you a drawing on an Excel file which you can pick apart to see how it works.

  13. The OP is clear that he charges the batteries back to 100%, regardless of whether it is by generator or by engine alternator. But it would be helpful if he can say which form of charging he uses and for how long, instead of relying on the smartgauge which may be misleading for some reason. PS: battery capacity is measured in AMP.HOURS (Amps x Hours), not Amps. Edit: crossed post with the OP.
