  1. How do you know the canal system is less seller? Have you ever done the South Yorkshire and Sheffield system, ever took your boat to Sheffield? I doubt you have as it looks like you don't even have a boat, lol.
  2. Maybe whoever has temporarily lent him a boat just rents it to him for £3000 per year so no need for him to get back on the CaRT system. What state of boat would he buy once you take off the license fee, insurance from the raised £3000. Probably one similar to the one he just had.
  3. Just shows how unreal and puzzling Athy's comparison with this case and being prosecuted for drink driving is.
  4. Maybe he should be suspended from owning a boat for a year and suspended from the canals for the same, as it's obvious that he is not capable of maintaining a boat and paying for it to be on the canal system.
  5. If it had been a car with no tax, M.O.T, and insurance it probably would of been instantly impounded, crushed and the owner fined. Maybe CaRT need to get a bit more heavy handed especially with similar boats around the London area, the majority of paying boaters would not have a problem with CaRT being more forceful instead of wasting money going through the courts. For saying this, does it make me a nasty person or just just someone that's pays CaRT £1100 a year in license fee, who would rather see the money being spent on the canal system rather then court cases trying to sort boat owners out like in this case?
  6. Completely different in all respects, all that has happened is he has lost his un licensed, un insured boat. He has not been banned from anything, fined any sum of money or given a criminal record, so an unsuitable comparison to use. Now he has been given a boat temporarily so not the registered owner, so no need to worry about the relevant paperwork.
  7. LOL, more fool the person who has lent him a boat and the people who have given money. Then again if he is not the registered owner with CaRT why does he need to worry about the relevant license, BSS and insurance.
  8. Seams to happen quite a bit on "Can't pay we'll take it away" when people fall behind on their payments and financial obligations, seams there's little difference between living on the canals and on land. Maybe CaRT should do it more often with un-licensed, un insured boats and sell the rights for the TV programme to Channel 5, If they did maybe my license wouldn't go up every year.
  9. I would say they are more observations then allegations and being a livaboard on the canals unlike you I'm in a better position to observe. Now get over it and concentrate on the subject of this Thread and not me.
  10. What allegations, come on what are you getting at, what's your beef? I take it your a livaboard? Come on get it off your chest
  11. I said boats and boaters like this, no mention of categorizing livaboards, as I said as a livaboard on the canals I've seen all types of boaters including livaboards so just have my own experience, sorry no statistics, just life experiences as a full time livaboard on the canals. I take it you have not seen these type of run down boats and boaters then?
  12. Where did I paint the picture of being unsympathetic to livaboards? as I'm one myself and I see all the types of livaboards on the canal, including those that pay and those that don't.
  13. Because boaters and boats like this tend to herd together and if you pardon the pun "tend to be in the same boat" with little money and little respect of the canals and CaRT with regards to license, BSS and insurance. Somehow they think the rules don't apply to them, especially when payment is involved.
  14. Obviously not that much of a mechanical wizard looking at his boat, why didn't all the people he had helped with repairs and maintenance not help him with his boat? Or were they similar boaters with similar boats also not paying their way and with no money to pay him for his work? as I find this the normal case with boaters and boats on this type.
  15. Better value boats out there then this, especially Trad Sterns, I see it does not tell you the engine hours in the Ad??
  16. You say it's your first BSS, Is the boat a new build or have you just fitted the Gas system and was it signed off by a qualified Boat Safe fitter?
  17. Disconnect the exhaust and pipe work and give it a good clean out, as it maybe coked up with carbon and un-burnt fuel.
  18. The last ones I know of went over to Cheshire by road, those boats were from the Tinsley area.
  19. Is there a problem with the Search engine? as it keeps defaulting to "Google" on the option list even when you ask to search topic/forum.
  20. You need to ring the lock keepers at Tinsley ASAP they need to speak to you.
  21. Go have a look for yourself, you can walk the towpath to Ickles, the water level boards will give you an indication of the river, it's only a 5 minute run to Ickles from the lock. There will be a bit more debris on the river this time of the year it's just the norm, the worse of the debris will be when you leave Holmes passing the wear. Go for a walk and have a look in the morning.
  22. Just to let you know the water level is rising now, temporary pump now in place so will continue to rise over the next few days, still about a foot lower then normal, at least not irrelevant information for the remainder of your journey unlike above.
  23. As the above says, they aren't at Ickles, you can't just go up as all the locks are locked and they meet you at Jordan's on the given booked day and assist you up the flight through the last lock No1, the furthest you can go is to Ickles I do not know what yellow light your looking at as there is no light system in place anywhere on the next stretch, they are only only used on the electric locks you've just went through, from where you are it's all manual locks. The water level is up from Sheffield to Tinsley, but that is more likely to do with the weather not the pumps, just ring the lock keepers and they will update. Have a walk to the lock and have a look at the safety/water level indicator and see what the water level is at, red/amber/green??
  24. Just out of interest has your boat been designed as a hotel boat from the start or is it a new idea? I say this as my friend has two hotel boats and his BSS is more stringent then on my boat, signage and safety glass with visible British Safety glass markings fitted to doors to name a few. They are registered business boats though CaRT so obviously license different too. Just wondering if they need to be registered as a business also with CaRT as well as HMRC to be able to claim everything back? I'm sure the CaRT business licence is determined on the business turnover(whether you need one or not)
