Single woman buys narrowboat to get on property ladder
PD1964 replied to David Mack's topic in General Boating
She’s an ambassador for “BoatLife 2023” some event later this month in Birmingham, with some of the other young Newbies that have bought a Narrowboat in the last couple of years. https://boatlifeevents.com/boat-launches/2023-ambassadors/ -

This woman is desperate for attention and Social Media Stardom.
-
At least @peterboat put it in the most appropriate section👍I wish others would think about the appropriate sections to start Threads, instead of just putting things if General Boating and New to Boating. That way sections may get more views and more Posters will get more information/help for their posts.

As I said the HDPE concept gets the mind thinking, as with steel you can weld to it, use flexible high adhesives to secure wooden batons for lining out, drill and tap holes for fixings. A simple question will you be able to do these things with HDPE? Or will build fixings need to be special fixings/screws, heat bonding processes, purpose made adhesive’s? There’s lots of questions that could be asked. The 20T weight is not correct, as that’s roughly the same weight of a fitted out 60ft steel Narrowboat and when you look at the build Video they’re moving it around with hand pallet trucks.
-
If the draft/stability works out and they could keep the weight down, these boats could be the ideal solution for a trailer/weekend canal boat, offering a cheap go anywhere holiday boat, powered by a small electric motor and solar. Obviously would all be dependent on workable dimensions, interior design and functional equipment, but may work? The HDPE concept certainly gets the mind thinking.

Bubble stove diesel pump v webasto pump........
PD1964 replied to Boaty McBoaty's topic in Boat Equipment
Yes I noticed that, but didn’t notice a price for a normal pipe flue on that list, also £200 to paint a flue black🤔 -
Bubble stove diesel pump v webasto pump........

I don’t know if it would be worthwhile doing as we don’t know the OP’s fire make. But may be cheaper then a full Diesel Bubble stove install, especially when installers seem to be fitting twin wall flue’s which all add up. -

An option that the op may not of thought about is converting his existing Fire with a diesel conversion and saving money. I’m sure there has been various Posts on here about the subject, there may be an off-the-shelf kit available for is multi fuel? -

A lot of retro installs use a separate diesel tank fitted in the well deck so gravity feed is achieved. This would be IMO the best way to go. Not the best idea to use the same fuel tank for engine and diesel stove. -
As I said @MartynG might be the best bet for upto date info, as he seams to cruise the Trent area currently.
-
@MartynG hopefully can give you some local knowledge for the area. Good luck

Boat dwellers to be able to claim the £400 energy allowance.
PD1964 replied to Alway Swilby's topic in Living Afloat
I see hypocrites buying electric boats quite often, unlike yourself Peter who is trying by also having EV’s for daily use, they still have diesel estates/4x4’s and travel hundreds of miles to view the build progress of their new “Silent Eco Friendly” boat. They even go on Social Media telling everyone how brilliant Eco boating is while not mentioning still having a diesel vehicle. Maybe they think in having an electric boat it cancels out their big Diesel vehicle pollution? -

Sheffield Moorings. Don’t Bother, Calder Valley Marine.
PD1964 replied to PD1964's topic in Moorings & Marinas
As I say people will use their showers onboard, It’s closing the showers full stop with no date to install the pre paid meter. They could of fitted a meter in a day, now the showers will be closed for weeks. Speaking of motor homes, the showers and elsen disposal are often used by them and Vanlife people, as everyone has a B&W key, but it’s the Moorers that are footing the Bill, hence the increase in moorings. -

One of my gripes is with CV Marine, as they are taken away services while at the same time putting the costs up. They also run Shepley Bridge and Saville Town Wharf Dewsbury, Is it the same there, that moorers never see anyone or never get a response to emails/calls? The shower issue is typical of them, “we’ll do what we want and if you don’t like it leave” A sad way to run a Marina. No sorry Sheffield is not a Marina just a boat park, C.V marine have absolutely no say to what goes on in the Quays. -

Yes I livaboard, and pay my way, but when I see facilities being taken away while moorings going up and elect also I would want Moorers to be looked after. The biggest issue is, is that they have closed the showers, if they had installed the “pay per shower” same day no probs you still have the facility(use it or not) but to close and not know when they will reopen is a joke. -

PD1964 replied to PD1964's topic in Moorings & Marinas
It has everything, but when the facilities are being taken away that’s another thing. The showers have been locked, what would of been better is that the “pay per Shower” meter be installed straight away. So not stopping the Moorers from using them. I take it your not a livaboard? -

Yes, but it would be nice for the moorers to get something as they get sod all else apart from a mooring in what is touted as a Marina. -

Especially when they only control the water space and control Zilch car parking and security, anyone with a CaRT key can flush/wash/Elsen to their hearts content, the Moorers just want some value, but as the Company say. “If they don’t like it they can leave” Customer/Moorers value means nothing to a Mickey Mouse run company. 👍 -

Yes, The owner is taking the P!$$, having failed with other businesses he has hit his long term moorers, as useless in business. -

Would you expect a free shower facility when paying £3200 a year? -

PD1964 replied to PD1964's topic in Moorings & Marinas
Sorry, a couple of boaters use the shower’s, the problem is everything is on a CaRT Key. So open to the Cafe, Walkers and Cyclists all using the facilities, the Moorers are taking the hit. He has no Balls to lock on a paying moorers only key. -

Yes, but you’ve got to give your Moorers a little perk, especially when there’s nothing else. The so called Office hasn’t even got a contact number on?? The owner bulls about the place, but in reality it’s a berth that’s it, once you step off it’s anyone’s\public
