  1. The Ashby is suffering a bit.. so shallow we had trouble getting away from our online mooring on Tuesday night...
  2. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  3. Went right to the end once 'cos Jon said the loo blue the ACS sold there was very good value! Any excuse.... Another vote for South... we've never done a two-way tunnel before 'bout time we did- advice? Boy, I'm looking forward to this!! :-)
  4. Really useful stuff here - thanks all! May ask my mechanic about leaving it out; even just until I find a replacement..........it's well mucky! :-)
  5. This exactly! we have been up to the end a few times as it fits in a long weekend and we absolutely love love love it, stocking up at the rather excellent farm shops reachable from bridge 23.... Trouble is, we haven't done a lock in a YEAR!!! I think we're beginning to be scared of them again.... ;-) We did love that stretch north past Nuneaton... much food for thought here - thanks all - we do tend to go off in the boat whenever we can (Greyhound for a pint anyone? Do-able and back in a half day easy from here!)
  6. Jealous - I even have a guide book for the Garonne! Hope you and mrs A have the very best time... hope we shall be able to do the same in a year or so.... Much inspiration here.... thanks all, Napton it is then.. :-)
  7. Thanks Jen, we have a very helpful chap locally so I shall try him....
  8. That's us Dave! Wot I should have mentioned is that we are both feeling rather wrung out from work, so I've tried putting only a 4 hour day into canalplan.... which kinda only takes us as far as Braunston, with a day to mooch around before we head back... We'd both love to come down to cropredy - Jon loves it round there and I'd love to have the opportunity to meet mr Athy and buy him a well-deserved tipple of his choice for past help/encouragement/and being a general good egg! ;-)
  9. We have a permanent mooring at the bottom of the Ashby Canal, near Marston Junction. We have a rare week off 3-10 June... which way should we go?? (Coventry is out, we want nice pubs and rural scenery! And walks!) We brought the boat down from Gt Haywood last spring so have done that bit but never been towards Rugby/Braunston way... any good? cheers! Xx
  10. Does anyone know if there's an equivalent air filter available from an ordinary motor factor? Or anywhere I could order one online to be delivered before 3rd June? Thanks for any help... Jane x
  11. Pleeeeeze keep us updated on your progress - Jon and I are well jealous!
  12. Yup, bolt the seats down, chain the furniture down.. other places do it!
  13. We have one of these http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Portable-230w-Twin-Tub-Caravan-Motorhome-Washing-Machine-Spin-Dryer-/172389067957?hash=item2823306cb5%3Ag%3A7wUAAOSwWKtUvkWj&_trkparms=pageci%253A23ce4637-ec6d-11e6-abc7-005056b242e6%257Cparentrq%253A1388d05f15a0a5e0a20e080eff9e888b%257Ciid%253A1 Hope the linky will work - on my mobile.. Sometimes the spinner runs eccentricly (good description!) if it's EMPTY.. if it runs like that when there are clothes in it, it's either uneven distribution of stuff OR there are a couple of bolts/screws loose just inside the inspection cover at the back... I seem to recall that there's a thread on THE OTHER PLACE about just such issues and how to fix them - but am @ work now and can't search for it! Other than that - my little machine has been a godsend. Even when I have access to a washer I still use it to get me white work shirts proper white again. Whoever thort bus drivers should have white shirts was a proper fule.... :-)
  14. Yehbut this of interest to me at least, I really like theLOOK of that and the durability , but I'm not convinced you'd get much thermal protection from it - would be overjoyed to be wrongtho! ?
  15. Confused of the Ashby here again! How would disconnecting the upper end at morse control help?? Bluddy Awesome! I only understand half of it; but the fact that I understand half of it is testament indeed to your powers of explanation, Richard! :-0
  16. Nope, never had this gearbox off - that's someone else! There is bu@@er all access to the bolt that attaches the gear cable... We have very difficult access to the weed hatch also. I HAD meant to get access panel cut into the trad stern at some point - obviously I wish that point had been last autumn! Will post a pic when I/boat and daylight co-incide again!
  17. Another thanks for this from me; I've been keeping my mind off my gearbox woes with this! ;-)
  18. Sorry I haven't updated, looks like it is the clutch slipping... My wallet is flinching already! This is now on the shelf until after Crimble.... :-(
  19. Bowled over and deeply grateful for all the above info - I really WILL read it today Mr Ross - I thort it was the same pdf manual I had, but then I was trying to read it on the tiny screen of my phone in a short work break! Feel lots more confident about wots wot now. Got an honest and v respected mechanic round here so after doing the cable test tomorrow I'll be consulting with him - it may end up being after Crimbo now.. He's good but v in demand! Ps. It's been a rubbish week for driving a bus round these parts this week; I've had freezing fog at 5.30am (10mph max..), a bus with steam pouring out of the heating vents at 6am - couldn't see the passengers on the back seat from my driving position ( different days!) a broken headlight at dusk and a disintegrated differential..... Aaaargh........ So seriously, thanks!
  20. A final question before I manage some daylight and another pair of eyes to check wots going on at the weekend...... Assuming the worst and it IS the clutch... Given that this delay in prop rotation only happens in the very first burst of forward gear, and that it seems to perform as normal thereafter - how fast can I expect this situation to degenerate until I have no prop turn at all? Or is that impossible to say? Cheers!!
  21. Cheers - funny how it says to use engine oil not ATF innit?! ?? There's ATF in there and that's wot they say in the Q&A on their website; and a couple of other places wot i cannae remember right now - but mucho confusiferlous eh?
  22. I get that! We nearly ended up at springwood for the sorting of alternator, but as we really have to stay mostly this end for work (yawn) i thort it better to get in with the local mechanic - he's bloody good i must say.... Bummer.......
  23. Just thort it would be nice to finish this one off! We set off to our new mooring lights blazing and stew cooking - strange sounds emanating from saloon.. Possibly Carlos Santana - eek! ( but it kept that blimmin voltage down... We had a most hilarious chug to our new mooring an had a brill mechanic on the case and sorted in 48 hours - nobody was interested in doing it at our old marina due to the huge commission charged on visiting mecanics.... So that was sorted with a nice cheap recon alternator and a very pleasant genius engine bod in my phone book - phew! Result... This new mooring is very peaceful so we are dining much more space to do all the little jobs, and chug off to the pub for the weekend if the weather ain't too horrid... Very grateful for all your help guys... We're slowly getting to grips with all the onboard systems ... (Don't think I've enjoyed a winter more-shhhhh!) /-)
  24. Is this still relevant, and therefore good. Practice for mechanical gearboxes then? Please feel free to plant any gearbox gems you may have here - I won't be doing much apart from work and read this in my breaks until friday ... Mind you - gearbox on my bus sounded like it was grinding washers today.. "Oh it'll be fine - just a bit noisy!" No Sh%t Sherlock! All gearbox jokes gratefully received too... :-)
