A few dry sticks, a small amount of dry coal, a reasonable quality fire lighter… Hey Presto, a good (hot) stove within 15 minutes.
  2. The mind boggles - or, at least, mine does. Does every one have to 'race' everywhere these days? I thought that was reserved for the roads ??
  3. I lit our stove tonight, a bit cool here tonight for my aged bones. The stove was lit and putting out good heat in less than 15 minutes – sticks and coal. Can’t think of anything better than that ???? b.t.w. Have just thrown on a little bit more coal and I know for certain that I will wake up to a nice warm boat in the morning – and, possibly/probably, a hangover (curtsey of Tesco’s red).
  4. They are on their holidays, probably/possibly paying lots of money to be there, doing nobody any great harm (hopefully), let them be and wish them the best. Most of us were in the same boat once (pun intended). I have followed many private boats through tunnels (and elsewhere) that would be put to shame by many hire boat captains when it comes to boat control and speed. Yes, it can be very frustrating following slow boats, however, if any of us need to get to our next destination in a hurry, there are faster forms of transport than canal boats……. Live and let live…. Now, back to the pratts moored down at Brentford, blocking the lock near Blackrose, live and let live doesn’t apply to you ----

  6. Well, if you remove the leading 'c' you are left with 'anals'. Now, if you remove the trailing 's', you are left with 'anal' - now, do a search on that....... PS I am off to bed now - sorry for any 'side effects' caused by Tesco's best red tonight --- Happy Bank Holidat to all......
  7. There can be no escape – w*&k is no excuse!!! We WILL be past your way again … and soon… you have been warned 
  8. Well, they should count themselves lucky they were'nt there when we came through a couple of weeks ago. There is just no excuse for such inconsiderate behavior - my opinion....... We are still not very good at handling our little narrow boat so it could have been a lot worse than a 'tap' !!!! PS - We did see you Blackrose but there didn't seem to be anybody hone..... Lovely boat you have PPS - photo here: http://localhost/Diaries/0908_Aug/Diary/16_Hanwell.php did beep horn but no sign of life on Blackrose - you must have seen us coming
  9. My observations are that Kyocera panels seem to be the most popular. BP, although more expensive, also seem to be fairly popular. I have had good experiences with these people: http://www.wirefreedirect.com/solar_panels_and_modules.asp? I have no connection with them......

  11. Well, a bit of water has flown under the bridge since this post started but….. I can now state without a shadow of doubt that my fridge and freezer use considerably more power in the summer months than they do in the winter – obvious really – hind site is a wonderful thing!! In summer, both fridge and freezer pumps are running almost continuously, consuming the best part of 120 Amp/hrs per 24 hour period. Frightening really!!!! The fridge compressor consumes aprox 2 amps while the freezer compressor consumes aprox 4 amps, both are modern 12V Danfos parts. Must learn to live without a freezer!!!!
