  1. Before the gas axe [/img] After 6 months and lots of sweet and tears [/img]
  2. Well I bid on 300 metres some 2.5mm2 won it, went to collect it, the chap asked if I needed any more ? told him what I wanted and , well the rest is history. now the funny thing is when I turned up to collect the second lot of cable, I knocked on his door, his wife answerd the door and said he was in hospital as he had broken his arm playing rugby, well i had trvelled almost 60 miles to collect it, she said she did not know were it all was, not happy, then she said let me look in his snap bag ! and there it was !!
  3. but ! I managed to acuire some 95mm2 cable and have used that from the batts to the inverter, and also from my batts to 180 amp 24 volt alternater, and again some one has thrown a spanner in the works and said its too big, also cos i had it I have used 4mm2 multi strand for my leds,(24 VOLT ) only about 12 foot from the batts and they also say that is way to big,(which I also managed to accuire approx 800 metres in total), have I gone over board and is it going to cause a problem do you think.
  4. hi John, thank you for the reply, I would be interested to no what length flue you have on your rayburn, and am surprissed you can not keep it in longer than 6 hours, i guess that is on wood ? surely on coal it would stay in all night.
  5. thank you very much Batavia and Carlt. could I ask you both please did you mount the heater on any form of insulated board and does the chimney get hot ? does this need any form of insulation behind it, or would it be ok to mount it on a wooden bulkhead ? im guessing not. thank you both again.
  6. It is actually refered to as the "over load trip " "and should only be used in cold weather to allow pumps to deliver excess fuel" end quote
  7. No my link was to the wood burning stove I have, your link is to the Tayors diesel stove, but thanks. The Taylors appears to be a quality stove at £1400 it should be! The plan is if we are too lazy or unable to keep the wood burner in all night then we could revert to the taylor. You are right I have never seen them fitted to narrowboats hence my question, just curious if its the cost or because there not very good as to why we see so few on the inland water way. Thank you for the reply, im just concernd about the amout of wood i would need to carry, I am also looking at the rayburn royale or regent
  8. braze would be easier, ! for me at least dont like silicon bodges, temporay and a bodge
  9. Hi folks, what is the general consensus about the above diesel heater ?It would not be the main source of heating just a back up. I ask the question becauce I think I may of dropped a b@@@@ck and bought a 7 kw wood burning stove that apparently can not burn coal and im afraid I will not be able to keep it in all night on wood, plus carrying enough wood would take up god knows how much room. this hopefully is the link to the stove http://www.corinium-stoves.co.uk/products/?cat=1&subcat=1&type=2&brand=36&product=207 any thoughts please cheers.
  10. Once again thank you one and all for your help .
  11. I allways carry a can of easy start on board, just incase, I do not like using it and only as a last resort. I think they say too much can wash away upper cylinder lubrication and thus reduce compression, which would I guess make starting more difficult, but can not see this happening over night.
  12. Thank you both for the replys. I could not see the point of one with my set up, but as I said some one said I should have
  13. Well done. you stick with it. Oh sorry to say it is going to be very cold tonight make sure you have plenty of wood
  14. As others have said, full throttle and cold start lever, I never like starting an engine on full revs but the manual recomends this, of cource soon as she starts knock the revs off! do not let her rev like made from cold for ages, If all else fails can of easy start to hand with just a small squirt in the air intake will sort it out, but best not to use it too often, but handy if the battery is fading fast and you need to start it.
  15. Hello every one, please bear with me on this one, Here goes. I have a 3kw generator connected to my sterling pro combi inverter(24 volt) My battery bank is conected to the inverter, and also to a dc consumer unit. the AC from the inverter goes to my AC consumer unit. my 180 amp engine driven alt is conected to the batery bank( six 110amp batts, 24 volt) every thing works fine, some one has thrown a spanner in the works, or should I say my mind ! and said I should have an AC change over switch to change from genny to inverter, Why ? I can not see why I should need one . Am I missing somthing here ? thank you very much. Please be carfull with me.
  16. would you have a link for that please ? It was recently sold at chevins. thank you found it !!
  17. I would like to thank you all for your input and links. I have today managed to find at work a 6 foot lengh of steel tube 5mm wall thickness but o/d 140 mm. the max my stove collar would take is 135mm and thats not allowing for expansion, so will have to get my thinking hat on. apparently it came off a steam boiler and is seamless god knows what that must of cost, So it HAS to be engineered to fit ! thanks again.
  18. Thank you both for the replys, I can find 5 inch vitrous, which I do not want looks too flimsy to me, also only in 1200mm lenghts.I am of the thinking cast would be longer lasting, and if it came in a 5 foot lenght there would be no join, sorry for mixing metric and imperial !
  19. I keep looking but can not see ! does any one have a link please where I can source a length of 5 inch cast flue pipe about 5 foot long please, thank you all.
  20. Nice job, but ! I think an internal spring would of been neater and also returned the chimney to the upright position when releasing the pull cord.
  21. Best quote so far for a 8 metre long spray foam, £700, and that was with Websters.
  22. I m tempted ! where are you getting the kits from please ? cheers
  23. Hi could any one please give me any recomendations please on firms / people around Derby to spray foam my boat please. thanks in advance.
