  1. Can anyone tell me what power starter battery would be suitable for a 2LW? my current one is on its last legs but has no info on it.
  2. As far as I’m aware Marsh lock is still out of action after being damaged by the Daniel Adamson earlier this year so you can’t get off the ship canal onto weaver. I spoke to the lock keeper at Dutton locks a couple of months ago who told me that CRT were having difficulty sourcing suitable timber for the lock gates. Apparently as it’s a sea lock a particular timber has to be used.
  3. He’s definitely still on the prowl. I spotted him taking photos of our boat at Stockton Heath a couple of months ago.
  4. If I had the cash I would also buy Effingham in a heartbeat. It may not be the the most desirable boat out there but in terms of rarity it’s up there at the top of the tree. ( prepares to be shot down by those who know far more than I do)

  6. Brian and my dad were both colleagues at Smithills grammar school and also good friends. I remember him as a lovely man who always drove old rovers. During the 70s and early 80s every Easter my dad, Brian and another colleague would hire three 70ft boats and take a group of 6th form students on a weeks boating holiday, something unthinkable these days. Rest in peace Brian.
  7. I heard the sad news today that founding member of the Rochdale canal society, Brian Holden, passed away a few days ago. I met Brian on several occasions as he and my dad were good friends, sharing a passsion for the inland waterways. He was a lovely man and worked hard along with others to get the Rochdale re-opened. 8. Thanks for the info. She’s a thing of beauty.
  9. Sorry I should have said, bridge 76 is just north of Great Haywood.
  10. We passed this boat on the T&M near bridge 76 last week. Can anyone identify it for me? I’m guessing it’s an ex FMC josher but my knowledge is limited.
  11. We’re currently on the T&M at Stone travelling north from Tamworth. No real issues with water levels and plenty water running down the bywashes North of Great Haywood. Only problem we’ve had other than the usual for a deepish draught boat was a low pound at Fradley.
  12. Our boat will be going into dry dock soon to have the 2 pack hull coating refreshed and I’m in two minds whether or or not to have the baseplate done whilst it’s in there. It’s a deepish draught boat so we do scrape along the bottom on occasions. Any thoughts?
  13. From a Facebook post. Wooden narrowboat Hardy, apparently built in 1940, refloated. I know nothing about this boat, just thought I’d share the pic.

  18. I’m considering using danboline bilge paint on the roof and deck of our boat instead of raddle red. Has anyone used danboline in this way?
  19. That would have been Mountbatten and jellicoe
  20. Stolen from a Facebook post.Taken today at London docklands.
