  1. Good points. I've got a fuel filter and hadn't thought about what it's like compared to other tanks.
  2. Hi all, it's me again. I'll be moving my boat down to Cheshire soon and somebody mentioned that it would be wise to make sure that there was no water lying at the bottom of my diesel tank. I rigged up a clear dip tube and took a sample. While there didn't appear to be any water present, there was quite a bit of black debris in it and it looked pretty cloudy. Not wanting to take any chances I want to get it pumped out and cleaned (if possible) or taken out and replaced. The engine is running fine at present as does the Webasto diesel heating. Can anybody recommend somebody who could provide this diesel/tank 'cleaning' service please, I'm moored up at St Marys on the Rufford branch of the Leeds Liverpool at the moment. Thanks in anticipation.
  3. Thank you all very much, I knew you'd come up trumps :-)
  4. Good morning all. I am trying to find out the details of my engine to establish oil grade and capacity, filter types and servicing requirements etc. I emailed Barrus Shire with the engine plate number but they didn't get back to me. Any ideas on where else I could get the info from please?
  5. Thanks for your help and I'm sorry for not getting back on here sooner.
  6. Hi all, I haven't posted on here for quite some time but am in need of any up to date information on permanent marina moorings around the Macclesfield area please. I'll be moving over that way to work (well more towards Manchester but it looks a lot nicer around Macclesfield) in a couple of months. I will be living aboard during the week and won't be relying on public transport to get to and from work so could do with on site parking. I've had a quick look online but haven't had much luck so I'm hoping that you helpful lot will point me in the right direction as always. Thanks in anticipation :-)
  7. Hi. I have a thetford toilet which is going to be connected to my mains water supply and which will eventually be connected to my 12v system. However, as a temporary measure (due to a guest arriving soonish) I would like to connect the toilet to a stand alone 12v 12Ahr battery. Is it as simple as just connecting it up or will I need to consider anything else such as a fuse? I will be grateful for any advice at all. Thanks in advance.
  8. No, just realised that the charger lights are out and I'm sure that they are usually lit up. I have no means of measuring voltage at all, I think that I can buy/borrow a multi meter today though.
  9. Yes it's a Sterling combi, I wouldn't know where to start to find out if it's taking power from the invertor. I think there is one. Is it possible that the batteries are charged but somewhere along the line, the 'power' isn't being allowed out ? (Please excuise my terminology)
  10. Sorry, I'm new to all this it's a combined invertor/battery charger. When I'm connected to shore power, the indicator shows that the batteried are being charged (well that's what I've been told) I only run a small TV, phone and kindle chargers and a lap top on 220 Not sure really, the batteries were disconnected individually and tested with a large meter with leads similar to car battery jump leads (best I can describe) I think he tested that with a smaller multi meter. 11. I'm sorry, really need to get to grips with how everything works on here, everything's been fine for a year and as soon as there's a problem, I have to call somebody out as I can't eliminate anything myself, I don't have a multimeter but will add that to my list of things I need.
  12. Hi all. Having a bit of a nightmare at the moment. Was due to go out for the week but after filling up with diesel, I noticed that once the engine was turned off, the voltage indicator on my invertor dropped quickly and steadliy, then the inverter cut out and displayed 'Uut' (Battery under voltage trip). After a few minutes, there wasn't even enough power to light up the 12v led lighting. I've had the batteries tested and they appear to be fine, the alternators seem fine too and appear to be charging the batteries through the invertor when the engine runs or is plugged into the shoreline. I know that's not much to go on but any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks
  13. Not really my scene (well I didn't think it was until recently) but that is one very nice item
  14. I recently bought a Samsung Eco Bubble washer dryer and it seems to tick all the right boxes. I have only used it on shore power and it does everything it is supposed to, according to the manufacturers blurb, it's pretty efficient power wise too. One strange thing is that it uses water when it's on the drying cycle which means that your pump is constantly switching on and off (this gets pretty annoying) so I have decided to duct a hosepipe extension through to the machine which I will then connect up to the mains tap as and when I need to. The wash cycle isn't a problem and seeing that most of my drying is done on a clothes maiden, the hose pipe option won't be used too often. One last thing, if you buy one of these before the end of October and register it with Samsung within 90 days then the parts and labour warranty is extended to five years !!
  15. Although not in all cases there's certainly a lot of truth in the old saying "I blame the parents" and nicknorman is dead right, you can't judge a book by its cover.
  16. I have faced ply linings with hardwood cover strips. The strips are fixed in place with small pins which are almost invisible unless you go looking for them. But as somebody has already posted, it all depends on what you're using for your decorative strips.
  17. Great set of photos Tim, looks like you had some fine weather when you were in Liverpool. I'll be going down there myself next month for a couple of days
  18. What a fantastic morning this has been, as still and as quiet as can be, crisp cold air with that curly 'mist' moving slowly across the water, ducks being really quiet while a heron trys to spot it's breakfast through the flat calm water and a hot air balloon floating past with the odd burst of power. It's just a shame that with great mornings like this comes streaming windows but such is life and I wouldn't swap it for the world
  19. I would advise anyone to live for the moment and if you want a tattoo, get one, don't worry about it degrading over the years. I do agree with you though, the boy's brilliant.
  20. No, it was in the boat when I bought it and seems to be the only instruction book missing out of every piece of equipment or appliance. Sorted. I don't think it is the same but in the end I found it easiest to flick the diffuser out to get access to the bulb. Thanks to everyone for replying though.
  21. Got the same problem myself now, anyone know how the cover comes off ? Thanks
  22. Love it, and from this day on Kaz they will be called windy holes cos I too am juvenile and find it amusing
  23. I have mine at the pointy end doors with the bedroom at the other end and it works fine although I do have diesel central heating too so I'm not completely reliant on the stove. When I was planning to fit a boat out myself, the stove was to be positioned more centrally but that was because I fancied a stove that was an oven too. It was to be quite an expensive centrepiece as I was looking at the Esse range of stoves but I love the Squirrel that I have got now.
