  1. If only I could post pictures, this might help edited to say - Oh, I can do it - thanks Malc PS the hairs somewhat longer now.
  2. I'm a lucky sod - I live near the Rochdale Canal and think the whole area is wonderful. For anyone cruising this way I recommend stopping a bit along the way and exploring the Pennine towns and moors. Much as Ilike other parts of this country, such as the west of Scotland, South Shropshire and all the national parks, I would not wish to live anywhere but here. Soon I'll be an even luckier sod because I'll be living on a boat on the Rochdale - more of that later.
  3. Could make an article for our upand coming magazine proposed onanother thread.
  4. The very one - how did you know that?
  5. Only for prescribing Dr Bradleys Lictus
  6. Uppermill on the Huddersfield Narrow, every July.
  7. Part of what will (soon please) be my boat name. Used, I suppose because it's what most people do, not for security reasons. Incidentally, if you google my name you'll find out absolutely nothing - when will I have my 15 minutes. And just to satisfy anyone intersted, I'm Colin Priestley from Sowerby Bridge. Edited to add:- a popular thread - over 20 posts in under 2 hours.

  10. It's beginning to l0ook like I'll be there Saturday or/and Sunday - hope to meet some of the canal world people. Colin PS look out for a bearded long(ish) haired hippy in his fifties.
  11. It has never been proven that fish don't feel pain, equally it has never been proven that they do. So this is simply an excuse for anglers to have their fun at the expense of other creatures without feeling any guilt. It has been proven that a fairly large proportion of fish caught and thrown back die - but of course that is never seen by anglers. I'd rather see people catching fish for food than for fun. I suppose this makes me a comrade
  12. I don't understand why you expected a responce. If I passed him I would say hello - as you asked for, but it's hardly something to post about if your not in the area, or even if you are. Nothing to do with being brought up on the other side of town, simply that there wasn't an appropriate reply to your post.
  13. I too came close to this about 10 years ago - I understand the damp brow John.
  14. I would suggest you buy a guidebook for the area, available from chandlers and some bookshops. They list mostof the facilities within easy reach of the canal, though theydo get dated by the time they are published so not 100% reliable. Personally I would take abox of staples and buy perishables on route. A little planning and it should be no problem. Enjoy your holiday but don't catch the bug or it could cost you many thousands of pounds next year.
  15. What sort of cannon was used to fire that ball - and was it double charged?
  16. It sounds to me the stress is on the person applying them

  19. I can't see what you've done wrong. I cannot recollect a post of yours which could be abusive. I sometimes disagree with you, but that in itself is not a problem. Unless the accusation of abuse can be shown, ignore it. As far as being pulled up for using appropriate terms on a thread about toilets, lets support the anglo saxon language.
  20. Saw a few walking home from the pub. Used to go out onto the moors at this time of year - away from light pollution - and watch all night. Might go out later.
