  2. The fine will be paid to the German government, where it will help to raise the standard of living in Germany, at the expense of other countries whose citizens bought the things. So it's heads they win, and tails we lose.
  3. I don't recall anybody drawing attention to this when it was announced, but Eberspacher and Webasto have been naughty boys: http://europe.autonews.com/article/20150617/ANE/150619872/eberspaecher-fined-68-million-euros-over-parking-heater-cartel I am afraid these Germans do seem rather prone to being naughty.

  5. I have a filter after the pump. Any bits get caught in the filter.
  6. I am sorry. Less time than two 100Ah batteries starting at 80%, and less than twice the time of one 100Ah battery starting at 80%.
  7. Do you guys agree that a battery under charge will go from 60% to 80% SoC in less time than it will take to go from 80% to 100%? If so, a 100Ah battery that is discharged to 60% SoC will take less time to reach 100% than two 100Ah batteries. And less than twice the time of one 100Ah battery.
  8. I appreciate your efforts to make your post intelligible to a poor Scot, but by dint of sheer hard work I have managed to acquire a smattering of English along life's way. So please feel free to revert to your native tongue. I shall be neither discommoded nor discombobulated.
  9. Soon they will stop printing road atlases. No need for them. Like encyclopaediae.
  10. Provided it is correctly wired, the beauty of the IT is that if the lights are on you know it's working.
  11. Like all tools, they do require some input from the user. Like common sense. Now why is Athy so much against them? :-)
  12. I am not at all convinced by all this. If you take a battery down to 80% SoC (20% discharge) it will take a long time to reach full charge. If you take it down to 60% (40% discharge) it will quickly get back to 80%, and then take much longer to get all the way back to 100%. This would be so even if you didn't have an intelligent charger reducing the current. The batteries themselves reduce the amount of current they take. So a large bank (lower % discharge) is bound to take longer than a small bank which has supplied the same total energy. It will of course last much longer too.
  13. Works both ways of course, as many lorry-drivers stuck down country ones will testify. Not to mention those who drove off cliffs and can't testify.
  14. There's a good argument there for switching to gas for cooking.- unless it's a rare activity.
  15. You're (relatively) new here, Loafer. In the words of Showbiz, this will run and run.
  16. Indeed. Pill was used to describe a ball, and pills....
  17. I hope you are not relying on the United States Of Part Of North America to provide guidance on the English language. However, I agree that English lacks a suitable term, unless we fall back on bladder.
  18. Yes, indeed, Sherlock. But I am a Union Scot, not a secessionist, and would have responded in similar vein had Scotland been playing San Marino. I looked up the first match, which is how I knew it was Rugby and didn't have to guess. Many people, asked to define a ball, would use the word spherical. So whether the object that is kicked legitimately in Rugby is really a ball remains a moot point. It is certainly arguable that you are mistaken, though I would not go so far as to say very much. Custom and practice are on your side.
  19. Yes, that's much more descriptive. George SG = Smartgauge sg=specific gravity (old term) rd = relative density (new term for sg)
  20. Number of people who can afford a cricket bat in England - 53 million Number of people who can afford a cricket bat in South Africa - 0.53 million Conclusion - England should be ashamed of themselves ETA: You mentioned wickets, so I assume you meant cricket. I am not a great follower of ball games.
  21. Populations England - 53 million Scotland - 5.3 million Ratio - 10:1 Scores England - 15 Scotland - 9 Ratio - Under 2:1 Conclusion: Scotland did much better than England
  22. An excellent suggestion, which I endorse wholeheartedly. Sadly, I suspect it will be observed mainly in the breach. George SG = Smartgauge sg = specific gravity
  23. It goes to 100% of current capacity. Which might well be 30% of original capacity.
