  1. Actually I disagree, from reading the act, bona fide navigation is not defined, place is not defined, & the distance you need to move isnt specified, just that you do need to move every 14 days... it doesnt say how far & where to & how long before you can come back again. For Davies, the judge decided that his movements along 10 miles of river/canal were not enough to comply & so he lost, but BWs "Continuous Cruiser" doesnt have any basis in law... lawful? no, unlawful? not so sure... trouble is BW seems to have introduced some rules that are not in the act & tout it as law... even if Mr Davies was taking the pee as seems to be the general consensus (tho I know nothing about it)
  2. Lol Geoff Mayers, I've heard of you, you're famous. Welcome to CWDF I dont have my boat yet, the last 2 'plans' went tits-up. Now I am reliant on at least 1 of 2 plans to come to fruition, unfortunately I have no control over either of them. Living in hope. But when I do get my boat, I will be based in a marina. I want the security of a marina for when I'm not on the boat, also the missus has to work 5 days a week, & the marina is 5 minutes walk from where she works, plus neither of us can afford to just go off & cruise the network, a little thing called work gets in the way. So we will only be able to get out evenings weekends & holidays. Perhaps that means I wont be a proper boater in your eyes (certainly how it sounds with your post) but it will be the best I can do, unless I win the lottery.
  3. Having ploughed through this lot, & gone wandering off to other stuff related (been reading since around 1pm yesterday its now nearly 5am), I have come to a number of conclusions. They are very specific conclusions, & where they are wrong I would like pointing out why, & not just opinion that you dont agree... (but I have posted my opinion on a public forum lol) 1. The OP must be having a laugh, because it annoys him that others break the rules, whilst he is quite happy to break the rules himself, just to a lesser extent. (more on this in a bit) 2. "Bona fide navigation" while not defined, the test for if this is being complied with, in law, is defined as not staying in any 1 place any longer than 14 days except for "special circumstances" (unless this has since been changed by more recent acts of parliament, I didnt find any references to say it had) 3. "Place" is simply not defined in law (unless this has since been changed by more recent acts of parliament, I didnt find any references to say it had) 4. BW don't actually have any enforcement powers in law for "overstays" or for not being "Bona fide navigation" other than to refuse the re-issue of a licence (or possibly the withdrawl of a licence?) (unless this has since been changed by more recent acts of parliament, I didnt find any references to say it had) (8)The Board shall not within the period expiring at the end of the sixth month after the month current at the date of the passing of this Act refuse or withdraw a relevant consent in respect of any vessel on the grounds that a mooring or other place such as is referred to in subsections (3) © (i) and (4) © (i) above is not available for the vessel. 5. BW has simply made up what it deems to be "Bona fide navigation" & actually has no basis in law. see point 2. 6. BW has simply made up the term "Continuous Cruiser" & actually has no basis in law. 7. BW has simply made up what it deems to be 1 "place" or another "place" & actually has no basis in law. 8. Davies lost his case because the judge decided that what he was doing was not "Bona fide navigation"... see point 2. Now if I'm right on points 2 & 3 (& by implication also points 5 6 & 7) then pretty much every point that theguitardoctor has put forward so far, is quite simply wrong, based on the fact that he is starting from a flawed viewpoint that the non genuine CCer has done something wrong... which from my reading of it they havent. The law says 1 thing, BW says something else, which simply is not there in the law. & so back to point 1, the OP openly admits to being a "bridge hopper" but not an overstayer, but it seems there is nothing defined in law about what could be termed as bridge hopper (& I dont mean the words, but peeps understanding of it, as in not genuine CCer) ergo the OP is not doing anything wrong. Edit to add I didnt find anything that says how long you can moor somewhere, but presumably this is controlled by law, but I wasnt actually looking for it.
  4. Perhaps she got her metal scars from using 1 of these
  5. or how about big dog says "Can I have you for dinner"
  6. I live in rented accomodation, & the only heater we are allowed (when the central heating doesnt work) under fire regulations are oil filled rads. Same applied to a B&B I used to run, latest fire regs only allow the use of oil filled rads (when the heating isnt on), in other words no convector heaters, no fan heaters, no "naked flame" heaters.
  7. Little dog in a thought bubble - "yeah, keep eyeballing me sunshine & see what happens"
  8. Very nice, I'm sitting here in my country mansion (10 mins walk from the town centre) with a noisey police helicopter hovering above the garden (for the last 30 mins), police cars screaming up & down the main road, the missus is asleep (so I can look at pr0n ...erm CWDF without getting grief) & I've already had my Sunday morning fry-up (which is no diffferent from my Saturday morning fry-up, which is no different from my Mon-Fri morning fry-up!) I think I might get on my pushbike & go & sit by the canal. (with my laptop & mobile dongle ofc)
  9. Who cares, you two (& now a few others have joined in) gave me the chance to use my favourite smiley. Maybe it wasnt exactly incisive , just trying to lighten the mood a bit, but it seems you two are having a row about a completely different thread, so how incisive is that? Report said boat to the relevant authorities, make notes, keep a diary, take photos etc. If you see them, politely point out what they are doing wrong. While ignorance is no excuse, it doesnt neccessarily mean they know, even if they have been there for a while. Once it has been pointed out to them then you know they know. I have been an AC/DC fan since I was a kid, I'm 42 now & only found out last year that they're Australian! Thats over 30 years!!!
  10. Lol, CarlT & theguitardoctor should get a room, looks like a couple of others want to join in to make it a foursome!
  11. Cant we just go round there & beat the crap out of 'em! I wont tell if you dont.
  12. You can have them arrested for that you know
  13. Yes, when she tells you to do a certain job, tell her "Do It Yourself" sorted... you'll happily make her a cup of tea while she's doing it!

  16. Lool, he's bitching about peoples' spelling, yet he can't construct a sentence, & doesn't use punctuation properly. You gotta love the spelling nazis! Now where was the last time I saw flies gathering around something...
  17. Thanks for that. They finally answered with the same as what you said. Yes I agree definitely overpriced. £8.5k for the state it's in, & £15k with the overplating done.
  18. My first job in the private sector paid well, but I was not allowed to join the pension scheme until I had completed 10 years service. This pension scheme included me & the employer making contribuitons. 6 months after joining the pension scheme, we was bought out by another company, who immediately closed the pension scheme & didnt offer a new one, sacked 1/3 of the staff, put up the hours from 35 to 40 hours per week, reduced the holidays from 28 to 20 days per year, & those remaining had to take on the extra work for a 5% pay cut in actual pay (not playing with numbers to account for lost holidays, lost employer contribution to pension, extra hours worked). Everyone was sacked & only 2/3 offered their job back at the new rates, no redundancies. When I worked for the Public Sector, I was not allowed to join the pension scheme until I had completed 10 years service. 28 days holiday per year, 37.5 hours per week over 5 out of 6 days, full days Monday to Saturday, always had Sunday off (& 1 other rotating day per week). Hours of work were between 7.15 am - 6 pm (1 week early shift next week late shift) When this job was transferred to the private sector, the terms of employment were protected for 1 year. when this year was up the terms of employment changed (everyone on the council terms was sacked, not made redundant, & then offered the new contract) So the exact same job, pay cut by £6,000 per year. Hours increased from 37.5 to 45 hours per week. Hours of work changed from between 7.15 am to 6.30 pm to between 7.00am to 2.00 am, not neccesarily a full shift, you could start at 7.00 am have a few hours off in between & then come back to finish at 2.00 am & still have to start at 7.00 am the next day. Work now included Sundays as well, never a guaranteed day off, the weekly hours were often spread over 7 days. No overtime rates, & holidays cut from 28 to 20 days per year. The uniform now had to bought from the new employer at over inflated rates, eg a pair of police issue boots which could be bought at the local Walkers shop for £90 now had to be purchased from the new employer at £150 for the same boots. (The uniform was previously issued free of charge when public sector) The uniform changed 3 times in that 1st year. Now all employees for the same job are on minimum wage. No pension scheme. Instead of bitching about oh they've got it better than us, lets make it worse for them, evryone should band together to get decent pay & conditions for everyone, instead of making the rich richer at the expense of everyone else. So the politicians would have you believe everyone in the public sector has some gold plated pension scheme & lots of other perks. The same as they would have you believe everyone on benefits is work shy & raking it in. To put it simply, this just isnt true. The reality is people everywhere are on varied conditions. The rich & powerful want everyones conditions to get worse & worse so that they can have more money for themselves.
  19. Lol, I ended up there quite by accident, didnt even know it was taking place. I went for a quick cycle ride along the canal from Northampton, ended up at Blisworth tunnel (so much for quick). By this time I needed a drink (didnt take 1 with me) & I had forgotten Stoke Bruerne was the other side of the tunnel. So I ended up going down the road & got there. Had a few pints, didnt talk to anyone, left about 6pm. The last few miles down the canal were a bit hairy due to the fact I had no lights, was wearing prescription sunglasses & hadnt taken my normal ones with me, couldnt see a damn thing by the time I got to Northampton. Still enjoyed myself tho.
  20. I am interested in 2 different boats. As a rough guess, approx how much would it cost to have a 32' Springer NB completely re-plated? I know that sounds bad, but I'm only guessing on the condition on the grounds that it has apparently been impounded. On another note, a different Springer NB 39', Hull 5/5/3 V hull Apparently this has been "Overplated to an insurable condition in 2011." Hull blacking annodes & survey apparently done in May 2011. I am trying to find out if it has had a survey after the re-plating work or before, & I would like peoples opinion (as todays specs are 10/6/4) on the hull. I know lots of work would be needed, but if the hull is acceptable then the boat might be acceptable if the price is right. It is also advertised (by a broker) as "Boat Safety Certificate New with sale" I think it probably needs all plumbing & electrics (no electrics?) & internal fittings re-done, but only guessing, but that isnt a problem. http://www.whiltonmarina.co.uk/used-narrowboats/details/1938.aspx Thanks
  21. Lol, I will say I agree with post no4. I dont have a boat yet. My money looked promising, the missus was up for it, I started looking. 1st boat I looked at I doubled the size & doubled the budget. Since then I have found out I have had all my money robbed, the missus aint gonna join me, & then my Dad died. Then Star*whateverhernameis* got a bargain & I have gone back to my original size & budget... & I'm paying fo a mooring I'm not using.
  22. If it's my boat my partner will just have to put up with me On a more serious note, I was a little surprised in reading this thread, so it seems to me that if you buy a boat & intend to use the stove it's a good idea to pull off the tiles & see whats behind whether is got a BSS or not. This is something I wouldnt have thought about. Up until now I just assumed these things were built properly & thats why they are on a raised hearth with surrounding tiles.
