  1. Keep the generator....better to put hours on it than your engine if you are not cruising and want to run washing machine, heat water and charge your batteries. Once you are out on the cut in winter and solar is no help I'm sure the generator will come into it's own. If you get new batteries get Trojans ...prices are pretty good at the moment... Looks like a nice boat ....decor can be changed quite easily...lol.. Good luck and enjoy...
  2. Worth a call to a few scrap merchant along your way... I got offered some railway stuff ( cant remember if it was rail or beds now ) for 100 quid per ton . ..you never know

  6. Very interesting..... Also backs up what you have been saying about Baldwin filters for quite a while....fair play to you ! I know this because I have been reading the Vetus m4** threads looking for filters for my 4.17... Ended up with a crossland filter....hope it's decent enough! I know where my money is going next oil change though lol..... Thanks for posting the vid .... Andy
  7. Scams.... There have been reports (on here iirc) about ads copied from apollo muck appearing on preloved and other ad sites The deciding factor is the low prices the boats are readvertised for....as already stated above...if it seems to good to be true, it is!
  8. Well they probably can dispose of it properly but that might detract from their profits, and we cant have that can we.....grrrrrrr....

  12. Hi Laurie Thank you so much for your very kind offer .... Unfortunately I am 'oop North for the foreseeable - Very thoughtful of you all the same - and much appreciated cheers Andy
  13. Thanks Pete That's what I thought it was, until I took the pump out! I'll try the Fernox and see how it goes. Thanks again Andy....
  14. Evening .... Does anybody know if any spares are available for my water pump? I originally thought it was a Surflo .. but I guess it's a clone. The pump is leaking from the diaphram, in the same way as the surflo ones do.... If no spares are available, is there a fix, or is it new pump time? Cheers Andy....

  16. Getting you to sign in agreement probably limits the marina's liability if your boat's electric system catches fire or trips the jetty out and someone suffers a loss of some kind....
  17. Interesting discussion...glad you got sorted out.! I find your ccooling system very interesting, and unusual, but it has given me an idea that may help a mate who is having issues with an overheating LPWS2. He has been advised that the skin tank is too small for the recently fitted Lister. I was wondering if a similar set up to yours would be a cheaper (if less elegant) method of providing some extra cooling compared to welding in an additional tank? Do any of you chaps have any idea if this would work, even as a temporary measure? Cheers....and sorry for the hijack JW1955.... Andy
  18. If you really must keep the three way fridge ( I strongly recommend that you buy a 'proper' 12V fridge) then I would use inverter to power the 240v heater in the fridge (usually 125w if Electrolux / Dometic caravan fridge) as they are horrendously inefficient on the 12v setting, as they are not thermostatically controlled on that setting. Basically they are 'always on' on 12 volts! Regarding batteries I would have thought it's better to have a bank made up of similar sized batteries,? Hth, Andy.....
  19. KISS principle...... dump through for all the reasons already given by Martin...

  21. As TB and others have correctly stated already, the smell of ammonia is the primary symptom of an absorption fridge leaking it's coolant. Once the fridge is out there may be a slight amount of yellow staining if the leak is in a visible place, but not always. I'd be surprised if you can get a replacement cooling unit and they are not rechargeable or repairable unfortunately. If you are particularly attached to your 3 way, you might find a replacement on eBay, or via a caravan breaker. Cheers Andy..(caravan engineer)
