  1. Ignore the original question as regards to what wood it is, the bl**dy worktop is hideous
  2. Rest in Peace Dave A cracking bloke who will be sorely missed Pinky
  3. The second bid was mine. Maybe or maybe not a sensible decision, but I set a limit of £5K and made sure I was nowhere near a computer when the auction was ending. Being quite aware of the likely cost of the repairs / work and having no intention of removing the National I was fully aware that this could and would have been an expensive project However it would have took me out of my comfort zone, which is not a bad thing Missus would have gone bananas once she had found out, (its not that easy just to sort of casually announce that another boat had joined the family, especially as I still have the industrial JP2 waiting to go into a shell and the modern Jonathon Wilson which she tends to call my expensive shed) However, it would have been fun Slightly disappointed that I put the sensible head on for once. Now where can I found me an old 72ft shell that wants fully restoring and needs a JP2 !!!
  4. Cheers John Will ring Monday or at latest Tuesday Pinkatpole
  5. Need hull blacking soon. preferably in the next couple of months. Not got the time to do it myself this time. Seem to remember a forum member does blacking at Trent Lock. Anybody got any pointers to save me trawling through the hundreds of blacking threads.
  6. Again I would also be happy to help. Bargeeboys offer is fantastic
  7. Youve shook it to much. The sensor has now decided it ldoes not like looking at whats below ans so has decided to spend life lying upside down. It can be rectified with an elongated probing into the tank and a bit of careful manouevering backwards. As you can see Ive spent a lot of the time with my arm up Mr Thetford. Have fun !!!!
  8. Defineteley a hand in job. It is the correct answer. Happens on both my cassettes. Best way is to do as Denis said. Refit the cassette and put your hand inside the trap when fitted. You can then reach the float and by lifting check it operates. Be careful of the bogey man though when putting your hand in !!! Pinkatpole
  9. Richard Definetely interested especially in either of the two flywheels and possibly stater motor. Am away from tomorrow until Monday. Will pm you for contact details Cheers Graham
  10. Bargiepat. Who is the background music artist She is stunning
  11. Again I have had no experience of them However the unreliability problem from trawling the internet generally seems to be around the dynamo function with relation to charging ability and not the starting part
  12. Not considered that but maybe worth considering. Another thing to think about Possible clicky but it wont click as I dont know how to do that http://www.woodauto.com/component.aspx?ref=DST10001
  13. Dennis I hope you didnt unbolt all that lot, take the photos, and then refit it for my benefit. Are you on the Thomas Covenant at Castle Marina. I think I looked at her about 10 years ago, when she was on brokerage. I am only in Chilwell, will pm you reference the hand start Cheers Pinkatpole.
  14. Hello All Thanks for the advice. Had the engine running today, fired on second start attempt and after very little tinkering, she runs perfectly with no knocking, wierd and unwonderful noises etc Having studied the engine further, have decided to forget about a blackstone box as it is probably an unnecessary and difficult job and I do not want to disturb a perfectly good crankshaft and bearings etc. Also have decided not to attempt to copy the JP2 M, as this would involve tying to locate various original parts that are not particularly necessary to get an industrial unit operating correctly in a newer installation, and I do not particularly require a full authentic installation. I would rather the installation be that of a converted industrial JP2 rather than a JP2 converted to a JP2M. This leaves me now with the following requirements:- Non original lister blackstone box, probably PRM or similar Recirculating water pump to run off a pulley system, off the flywheel, together with alternator. Probably no dry sump, still can not figure out the exact reasoning for the dry sump. (Any advice would be helpful). 26" ring gear for the flywheel (it has the larger flywheel fitted) to facilitate electric start. Would still like to leave a hand start facility and may consider this from the flywheel end on a suitably mounting from where the original belt pulley drum was fitted, unless I can obtain an over top hand starting mechanism as per the JPM series. Will certainly have a look at Warrior Womans blog. As I am still in the research stage, any further comments and advice are most welcome. The more information the better. I am not considering ordering a shell until I have this sorted and as I still have my current 57ft previous build I am in no particular rush. This build will be my last one, having done 2 others previously, so Im willing to take my time and get it right first time (ish). However I am still after contacts for JP2 / M spares to see what I can find. Thanks all Pinkatpole Mods Would this topic be better in boat building & maintenance, I could then post a wanted for just JP spares
  15. Cheers Mike Its an industrial unit I am going to convert, which currently has no form of marinisation. The industrial unit is complete and running, however it might not be if I have to remove the crankshaft to machine it to suit a Blackstone box !!! Pinkatpole
  16. Wanted Lister Blackstone 2:1 reduction gearbox and reverse gear box for Lister JP2. May consider more modern version Various marinising parts for JP2, including :- 23" flywheel ring gear Top of engine hand start gear. Dry sump tank Exhaust silencer Circulating water pump Infact anything JP2 or JP3 considered. Or if anybody can supply any help in locating any jp2, jp2M, jp3, pp3m spares
  17. Thanks Ian The alternator drive belt configuration may be useful. Have all the informaton from both sites. Look forward to seeing further photos Pinkatpole
  18. Hello Any members have a lister JP2 installed or know of somebody that has. I am interested in viewing a completed installation or maybe a few as part of my planning before I start the long process of my next build. I want to gather as much information as possible on layout, services, propping, alternative drive solutions, possible alternator etc Cheers Pinkatpole
  19. Best version Ive seen and Ive actually used it on mine after seeing it, is to have identical rails on top and bottom of windows. The person who made my curtains then put rufflette tape on both the top and bottom of the curtains. They then fix to the rails by curtain eyes, not hooks, that thread onto the poles. This way the curtains hang parrallel with the side of the boat and slide on both rails with no tucking them into to the bottom rail Works a treat
  20. I agree with Stuart. Read the book and take it as gospel if the item is mandatory. That way if the BSS examiner gives you any rubbish about the pipes being enclosed under the gunwhale, or behind units, show him the little red book. Most of my pipes are enclosed, as having spent 40+ grand on shell & fitout etc, I did not want to have an ugly length of pipe running the length of the boat. Although feasibly I could have made an ornamental feature out of it!. However, every joint is accessible. There should be no need to have any joints unless they are bulkheads, tees to appliances, isolotion valves etc.
  21. Got my brass ones from tlc direct. www.tlc.direct.co.uk @ £8 each Even do kiln dried wooden ones
  22. This year will be my 25th at the Cropredy Festival. Six of which have been done on the boat. If we do go on the boat we generally get there on the Monday, before the festival starts. You can just about get a mooring on the Monday providing you more south of the lock, as most people turn round in the wharf winding hole, to avoid the queue at the lock on Sunday morning, going North. Can take up to 3 hrs to get through The nearest turning point further south is Banbury, 7 lock miles, if you are in anything over 35ft. Getting there Monday does have the added advantage of being able to get rather drunk for three days before the festival starts, at the normal pub prices, as they are hiked to £3.00 plus per pint whilst the festival is on ( and served out of plastic! ) in plastic. It could be worse this year as I am trying to arrange a small rally for all the boats with Fairport related names, of which mine is one. The festival is probably the most friendly of all the majors, although the village gets a bit cramped with 20,000 people in it, 2 pubs and 1 shop. The battle of Cropredy bridge was one of the last major battles of the English civil war, and didnt involve boaters and anglers !! The Music Weaver No.2
