  1. you could try drilling a hole in it and using a puller to reverse the depression .....you might have to make up some sort of jig to get the necessary 'purchase'
  2. about 20 mins a lock in Hatton for me too and i agree with setting the next one whilst filling or draining the one you're in.if you time it properly then you finish setting the next one and open one lock gate to get in then go back move the boat out (stopping to close the one you've just left).this works best if you half open one paddle in the lock the boat is in which cuts down on it moving about too much and gives you time to set the next lock.that way you only have to do one 'lap' at each lock and avoid toiring youself out.
  3. i do knowle and hatton locks on the GU single handed when i have to without any hassle but the key is never to lose sight of your centre rope so you can always keep hold of or tie up the boat.amazing how many people will stop to watch ,but not offer to help, when your doing it!
  4. i seem to recall that anthony sher has one (i'm sure i've seen it on telly)
  5. sorry to be picky but you dont killl moss with weedkiller ...you use mosskiller .dont know if its safe on fish etc?
  6. oops ...and i was hoping to use up the 20yr old tin of creosote i still have in the shed at last.any one know what to use instead as most things that kill moss probably also kill fish?
  7. thanks everyone....... i'll have a go this weekend with the jet and then creosote to protect afterwards.at least the creosote will dye any stubborn bits of moss the same colour as the fender so they will blend in!
  8. our font and rear fenders are both rope and are probably quite old by the look of them but they still do the job.they have quite a lot of moss growing in the crevises in the rope and i wondered how other people might have solved this.....can i take them off and soak them in mosskiller or bleach or something?
  9. i think you can get manuals off the lister web site ....i got them for my lpsw3 last year
  10. hmmmmmm....fullers earth ...very eco unfriendly as it is dug out of quarries.going back to cat litter you could try the litter made from recycled sawdust.its called beauticat.
  11. hi david we have fitted a webasto airtop 2000 to our 35 ft boat and so far have been very happy with it .no probs to date with using red diesel as fuel, but you should read the various threads on this of other peoples experiences. i wouldnt like my system to come on remotely as it is after all a diesel burner which can get hot etc etc.it takes only a few mins to heat the cabin anyway so not worth the risk.
  12. hi steve ...i bought the stuff you mention from TW Marine .it cost about 150 quid to do the underside of the cruiser deck boards which is quite a lot but it has made a noticeable difference and i can now hear myself think at full revs! i still had to fit some high temperature insulation above the exhaust pipe to stop it melting the insulation.
  13. what does it cost and where do you get it fom,Jaysay ?
  14. i know ours is only 35ft and usually only has two of us on it ,but for the last 25 yrs it has averaged between a gallon and a gallon and a half a day. if you double for a 70 footer and cruise 7 to 10 hrs a day thats about the same
  15. yes definitely get a co detector anyway but not just because of the fridge.........like a smoke detector at home it could just save your life
  16. lots of people have horror stories about gas frides especially if they vent into the living space.not a good idea.why create a problem you then have to fit a co detector to protect you from? our fridge was like this when i bought the boat and its the first thing i took out.
  17. we used swallow cruisers at hockley heath on the stratford .very helpful did our blacking last year
  18. our gas locker lids are wood and it passed a bss only 6 mths ago without comment.good luck with your new pride and joy(or money pit depending on your point of view)
  19. no!!!!!! dont get a spare cassette at 80 quids .get a cheap bucket and chucket with a tight fitting lid decant the cass into it and store in the bilge somewhere til you can empty it .much cheaper!
  20. a comma inserted after 2ft explains all ?
  21. jerry, never heard of using lead ! why not use second hand engineering bricks or paving slabs, neither of which will rust ? and by the way what is a fishplate ???
  22. we use redex diesel and the engine smokes a lot less since wedid also if you let you tank run almost dry i think you run the risk of the grot at the bottom getting into your fuel lines
  23. you could try turnig down the water temp control or the transfer rate control knobs on the front (if its the same as our model)
  24. we got our 15 inch from sainsburys for 170.one advantage is that it runs off 12 volts and only draws 2 amps
