  4. Best advice by far from Gary.A better chance of getting a good deal, although not a guarantee,as I found out,but thats another story.(I had no contract,)Get as much surity as you can,and shop around.Good advice is talk to owners of boats, rather than taking pot luck!..Good luck in your search.
  5. I had to reply to this thread as many of you probably are aware of the probs I have endured with 'ITELDOO4ME',and it seems to be getting worse for people getting ripped off.it is horrendous to see countless tales of people being stung yet again!.Hopefully there will be some light at the end of the tunnel for many with the need to be protected from the rogue traders that seem to be popping up everywhere with the tag of being 'boat builders',.Due to me sticking my neck out through sheer disgust of being treated like a ignoramous I have secured the attentionof my local MP in a bid to secure some form of legislation regarding the setting up and trading as bona fida boat builders.I will of course keep all of interested parties up to date, with progress, slow as it is,or for those of you who would like to be involved then please pm me and I will send you my personal email address. There has to be an end to these people, and it has to be soon before more hard earnt cash is gobbled up into the bank accounts of the rogues, and to give back the credit to thebona fida boat builders that are given a bad name by the few.
  6. HI Samantha,I live in Long eaton, the erewash runs at the back of my house and through the town.its a great place to be,up and coming,.local to east mid airport and city of nottingham. With jobs in plenty for all trades and proffessions.Plenty of moorings available at Sawley marina, but a bit pricey, around £1800 pa for livaborads, and less for non.Shardlow marina where I am do have moorings, occasionally, but a c ase of getting on the waiting list or being there at the right time, when one is available, at around £1200 a year, and redhill marina at around£1200pa also plentifull .but a bit muddy, probably ideal for you as the owners have 6 miles of arible land includig lots of horses.Any thing elseI can do for you?Get in touch,Good luck.Marc
  7. WW this month have a 45' ST built 2004,cost £50000,selling at £25000 due to a poor boat build, needs rectification work doing....Know how they feel!
  8. I have a nb in Shardlow but live in Long Eaton,a stones throw from the Erewash, and can say that apart from the fact that it appears fairly scruffy from people throwing rubbish in,supermarket trolleys in abundance being one type, there is little trouble.I have seen youths hanging around various locks, but I cant say that they were aggrevating anyone,I think that overall youths will be youths, and there are bound to be areas that some will spoil it for a few,its not going to be a massive problem I dont believe, but if in doubt the best advice is go with another boat.Theres always safety in numbers.

  10. I have found its a good idea to read the small print.Insurance for boats seem to be very reasonable,in comparison to vehicles,I pay £218 pa, with an excess of £150.For this I get hull & equipment cover up to £50000(i did a self fit out)for a 55footer trad.I did get a ncb,but that was only a tenner.I also get a 3rd party extension of £30 million. The company is IWIS.Seems prices are all fairly similiar, and prices are decided on length and value.
  11. Just spent 3 hours on this site!! brilliant planner, generally a good site with info for all.Reccomended

  13. Got my tickets on internet last week, and good job really as a friend had been to Excel for London boat show and said it was rubbish, apparantly they had otter on display and thats all in the narrowboat section.Birmingham show has got to be a winner in comparison!
  14. And I'm still trying to figure out how to fit my Webasto unit!
  15. Hi Paula,my boat surveyor phoned me and told me today.,I am not suprised, but my boat will have the rectification work done on it in April anyway, and I will end up with a decent boat.I suspect Hixons will start up again in a psudin name somewhere,!I am taking a ride to their house next week, hope their in.Take it easy out there.Marc it does, but I plan on having the last laugh, its not over yet, just because they are bancrupt makes no odds to me,If they open up again some where else, I will find out,and I'll do it all over again until they realise I am their worst nightmare.See you on the cut sometime after April, when iteldoo4me will be posing and cruisin'.Marc My boat surveyor phoned me and told me today.
  16. To inform you that HIXON BOATS have gone into liquidation,bancrupt,skint,broke...........just tough on all those that have had to endure rubbish builds,I suspect they will re format into another company,if they havent already.my boat is booked in for the rectification work in April regardless. Now I can go public with their name, without fear of being scolded!.Any one got any other info on this company please>?How about new company names, such as PART BUILD BOATS,,BODGEIT & SCARPER
  17. Actually no,I was reccomended by a boat agency, not so funny. However the court case should certainly prove to be amusing,if they dont settle out of court that is,more is the pity.
  18. I totally agree with John Wood, its a case of WW taking sides on articles they would rather not print in fear of losing the advertisers .ie rogue boat builders, who give many(including me) a raw deal.More should be written for those that buy the magazine, more chance your sales would go up for being up front,be it good and bad news and information. When i contacted WW recently, regarding a shoddy boat build,I was informed that WW couldnt help,
  19. I agree, and there is always more than one way to skin a cat!
  20. I must be a stubborn one,but I really feel that I am going in the right direction here,I certainly cant name the builder(done that and got smacked for it)and being ready for them and they for me is my choice.Although I see your point of view,I cant really keep it under wraps. The juicest bits have not been put in the forum. That will have to wait till the case has been heard>>>>>>>>...watch this space
  21. I hope they do read it,then they'll be ready for me when I see them in court.I'm certainly not keeping hush about it,and a bit suprised they havent contacted me,if they have read my threads on this topic. Thanks for the advice though.Take it easy.Marc
  22. Hello,I believe many of you know about my boat problems, and that I had explained in detail about the builders negligence in the quality of build.Well for those of you who are interested,I now have the boat survey results, its certainly an eye opener, and probably would be of interest to some of you.So as not to confuse the issue too much,I have decided to put a statement on the forum showing the surveyors findings,as against putting the whole report here, although if you want that it will have to be after the court case.I can then name and shame.I have to give the builders the opportunity to settle out of court,I doubt if they will respond to my solicitors letter,as they dont seem too bothered about their reputation, which will be non existant by the time I'm done, and in many ways I hope not,as I really do want it to go to court. Its the only way to get noticed by the powers that be,that might be able to prevent this type of rip off antic happening again.Your views will be well recieved. So here are the findings, and the action suggested. There are items on the boat that have not been listed,by the surveyor, such as:- ,1) bow, stern,& side hatch doors hinges welded to close to frame, preventing complete closure of doors, 2)roof drains too far forward, water collects in pool at stern, 3)roof sections not welded externally, now opening up letting in damp, 4) no access to fuel taps **Although these few other faults are seemingly small, they are still faults, and not acceptable. All new boats have some remiadle work required, but am I the only one here getting a raw deal.I think not. Conclusion 10.1 The narrowboat “Iteldoo4me” was surveyed was in the water at Shardlow Marina on 16th Dec 2005. 10.2 The engine cooling skin tank was badly formed and welded and should be cut out & replaced. 10.3 The hull was possibly leaking at the swim to bottom seam on the aft port side. This should be investigated further. 10.4 The hull was possibly leaking at the swim to bottom seam on the aft port side. This should be investigated further. 10.5 The diesel fuel tank was leaking at the pipe to tank connections and the spare outlet was not blanked off. 10.6 The stern tube/bearing is not ideal for canal use. 10.7 The cabin roof is badly buckled in way of the pigeon box. 10.8 The gas locker drains are as not at the lowest point. 10.9 The battery terminals were not covered or insulated. 10.10 I consider that the boat requires some remedial work to be carried out for it to meet the requirements of the Recreational Craft Directive and the Boat Safety Scheme. 10.11 The HIN number is not correct. The manufacturer should be contacted and the correct number should be appropriatly attached to the boat
