  1. It's expensive, to be sure. However, one cannot simply compare the price of a narrowboat rental to staying in a cottage or B&B. After all, it's not just the lodging you need to compare. Take into account the price of hiring a car as well since this is your transportation as well as your "home" for the duration. Each year we take a holiday in the UK and this year was our first narrowboat experience. Previously we hired a car and stayed in either self-catering or B&Bs. The overall cost for the narrowboat holiday was about twice what we usually spend. (Close to $6,000 US dollars.) It was well worth it! Allie

  12. I read over and over about sharing locks and closing paddles so we don't waste water. My questions are: Where does the canal water come from? And where does it go if it's "wasted?" I'm not being sarcastic, I honestly don't know. Allie
