  1. As I put in the original post, the live stud on the starter failed (dropped off). The likelihood was that the disconnected wire went to that, but as there is a second spade connector on the solenoid that was a possibility too. New starter will be going on when I get the chance. Thanks for the input Dave
  2. Thanks Bod. Looks like only one spade connection to the solenoid, the other wire going to the main live. It's what I suspected I think. Dave
  3. No photos available for now.. Looks to be the original 1990 wiring of the engine mounted relay. Most wires go back to the harness, just these two go down to the starter. There's not that many possibilities really, but I thought someone familiar with these engines might know. Thanks anyway
  4. I wonder if anyone can shed any light on the above? Main live stud on the starter has given up the ghost. When I removed the starter I found two wires coming from the relay - one with a spade connector to the starter, one with no terminal just floating in the air. Should the second wire go to the second spade terminal on the starter? The only alternative I can see is that it had a ring terminal and went to the live stud. Any help appreciated- thanks Dave
  5. Or can anyone offer a SENSIBLE alternative to remove a %$"%-load of oil that's floating on several inches of water? (Moral: Never trust anyone else to do any-^$%$-thing!
  6. Is that secondary glazing, Roger? Dave
  7. Any-one know the part numbers for a Vetus M3? All mine are unreadable.
  8. Just proves that accidents can happen to all of us, not just the inexperienced - Scotty is a long-term liveaboard.
  9. But how many are? The isolators are usually there already, and the invertors just wired up to the domestic bank, relying on it's own internal switch
  10. Not got one of those 'Bank 1/Bank 2/Both' rotary-type isolators by any chance? If so, was it in the correct position to charge the domestic bank whilst cruising?
  11. Can anyone tell me the dimensions of 'standard' hopper-type windows in a narrowboat? Need to sort out some curtains/blinds and can't find the bit of paper/fag packet that I wrote them down on! Thanks, Dave
  12. It is a lovely boat. It's been moored at Whilton as a liveaboard since it was built.
  13. That thing cost over £200k to have built - classic case of someone with more money than sense being ripped off by a builder.
  14. Gets my vote. Servicing Diesel engines is quite straightforward. There are usually manuals available online if you don't have one. The good old Haynes manual is quite useful if you've got a marinised version of an automotive engine - the pictures show what is what/where.
