Sorry people but this is a personal message from me to the person who obviously ran into the back of my boat at Breantford Marena and never had the decency to leave a note of apology.

Just for your records the damage looks small but the dent and obvious loss of paint has resulted in a split in the diesel tank and will need welding so thanks again for that.

Not the first time this has happened and not going to be the last but a simple note of apology even as you obviously had no intention of offering to pay for the damage would have been something.

So off you go on your way I know that in life things like this have a way of balancing out in the end.

Do you need to change your mooring?

In now way condoning the action of the thoughtless asshole who hit your boat , I would be concerned that this caused a split in your Diesel Tank !

sounds like a weak weld which could have gone at any time (imo)

I hope however that you do not incur too much expenditure in repairs

regards

Chris

Thanks Chris but thankfully the damage is at the top of the tank and although a split it is perhaps best described as a puncher and is well away from any welds and as long as dont fill the tank full I should at least getaway with any leaks.

Cheers Chris but I can sort it I will patch it for now and get it fixed for good at a later date. As I say as long as I dont fill the tank it should be ok for now.

Sounds like a major bump if they have dented your boat and ruptured your fuel tank. Have you checked if anyone saw the incident and took down the boats name?

Tanks are not as strong as we would like to think, i know. A friend of ours has ruptured his water tank after a session on a choppy sea at high speed and we are keeping an eye on ours as we seem to be using a lot of water lately

Yes Philis I asked a couple of people but they were not aware of anything and its possible that it happend a couple of days ago and I only just spotted it I often work late and when I get home its a bit of a rush to start food and walk the dog so with the failing light and the rush to get out with the dog before its dark I may have missed it.

I had a conversation with a fisherman fishing next to my boat the other day and he told me that the previouse days fishing was spoilt due to people messing about on a boat and spooking the fish?? and perhaps now that conversation is relivant. I will hope to see him againe as he seems to like that spot.

The damaged area is confined to a small area but just bellow a 90* bend in 5mm steel so a verry strong part of the boat and the impact such to put a hole in it.

The thing is if this was a genuine accident and they happen then I would have knowing my easy going nature and the fact that it can be patched and repaired later at a more convenient time when blacking I perhaps would have put it down to experience and accepted the apology as payment.

Does the Brentford marina not have CCTV? For some reason I thought it did. Check in at the BW offices and ask if they know who looks after the cameras (if there are any) and if you can narrow down a timeframe when this might have happend you can maybe see which boats were on the move around the time of the incident.

I know it doesn't help with the fundamental point of someone else damaging your boat and sodding off, but....

Why can't you claim on your insurance? It's accidental damage caused by an unknown third party.

Often what looks like a simple repair job can be long and complicated and best left to experts - they cost money.

Just a thought...........

Is it possible that you are moored badly?

I have a bit of a manoeuvre to do to get into my mooring. The problem for me is that the 70' boat on the opposite mooring is 1) is tied up six feet further along the mooring than the designed position and 2) is tied so loosely that there is about six feet of movement. As I try to slide past, the boat is able to move and invariably it gets drawn in by my bow wave, banging into my stern as I pass. And then the occupant looks at me as if I had bashed him!

Thanks Leonie I dont think cctv covers the visitor moorings at Brentford and besides I am not intent on tracking them down

Steve the insurance thing is a good idea I will contact them

WJM I know what you are saying but if you know Brentford I am almost under the sheds I could not be further out of the way and I have almost been tipped out of bed as my ropes are to tight with the rise in water level following the rain.
