£10 a foot seems to be a going rate for blacking, so when you work out the maths( hire dock or crane, bitumen, powerwash, labour etc) it makes sense to pay someone else to do the work on a 48ft boat.  

My boat's 48' and I've found it a better deal to let someone else do it. 

But allow a bit more money for other work. There always seems a bit of welding or something extra to be done while the boat is out of water.
