It doesn’t seem any cleverer than the thing I got, cheaper and which has 8 digital outputs, 8 digital inputs and usefully, 4 analogue inputs so that such things as battery voltage can be reported. Although the instructions for your device talk about “A to D” inputs, as far as I can make out that is a lie, they are just digital inputs.

Give us link to some cheaper examples on ebay you are talking about (as otherwise we are just guessing) and say exactly what it is you want the device to do.

Oh and is there any phone signal on the kandA?

Oops sorry, forgot to say. I'd like to be able to turn on the Whispergen with one phone call. It has a pair of contacts that start it when closed then opened. Or just left closed.

Ideally I'd like a device which will connect the terminals for a second or two then disconnect on a single phone call. I suspect a phone call actually closes a set of contacts but another phone call is necesary to open them again on these devices but the listings never seem to say exactly what switching occurs on phoning the device.

Here are a couple of cheapo ebay examples:

Which device do you have Nick?

Both the devices you quote can be set to operate the relay momentarily. Full instructions for both are readily available on the internet. Be aware that the 5015 only works on GSM, not on 3G and hence it won’t work with the Three SIM.

I have an RTU5011 made by the same Chinese company King Pigeon. It is bigger and has analogue inputs (5-20mA current loop). We’ve had it coming on 7 years now, been on 24/7/365 and always worked perfectly except once when I had to reboot it.

The S150 is obviously a later design that supports 3G and has more I/O but doesn’t do analogue inputs.

my RTU5011 is harder to find on the internet but I got it from this company (they call it the 250b) http://gsm-secure.co.uk/GSM-250b-GSM-Alarm.php. Only worth it if you want analogue inputs (battery voltage, cabin temperature etc).

Oh and while I think of it, my RTU5011 is driven by text messages rather than ringing in, but that means it can also support voice calls. I can phone the boat up and listen to the Mikuni start up cycle. It didn’t bother to wire in a speaker but if I had done, I could have whispered sweet nothings from afar to boatie too!
