Dave Payne
Need to book the boat in for blacking, aiming for a week in August, i had two anodes fitted when i purchased the boat two years ago, looking at them they are still quite large with little sign of wear, just the usual covered in lumpy bits, how do you tell when they need replacing, and if they do what size do you go for? Boat is not moored in a marina, is 57ft long. Thanks
Robbo
Don't replace, just add more nearby. Although if they have had little wear adding more prob not needed. Edited June 27, 2017 by Robbo
Dave Payne
Just did a google, not sure accurate this is, but this would indicate i need over 20kg of anodes, Spring haven marina are asking £64 for 2kg fitted!! http://www.thefitoutpontoon.co.uk/buying-building-canal-narrowboat-anodes.html
cuthound
I had 4 fitted when DQ was out recently. Norton Canes Boatbuilders at Glascote Basin charged me £40 each including fitting but excluding VAT. Excellent value and very professional. Once the boat was out they told me my epoxy blacking was still good for another couple of years, rather than charging me to have it done unnecessarily. The old ones had eroded to less that 30% of their original size, and we're left on to continue eroding . Edited June 27, 2017 by cuthound To unmangle the effects of autocorrect.
