Ground Anchors for Mooring

I've had some experience in using Spyrabase ground anchors for mooring <<http://www.spyrabase.co.uk/product_info.php?ID=10502>l, rather than the helical shaped bar ones <http://www.spyrabase.co.uk/product_info.php?ID=10018>). (We've also managed to bend one of them!)

I found these Spirafix ones while googling around - wonder if anyone has experience of them? <http://www.spirafix.com/>They look as if they might go into difficult ground more easily.

No experience at this end I'm afraid but I'll be interested to hear responses.

I'm always slightly concerned when people suggest the helical bar ones as I've always suspected that they wouldn't be able to take much lateral force but this is the first time someone's reported bending them. What size boat do you have?

The ones with the blade style look like they'd be able to take a lot greater lateral load.

My suspicion is that any design of that nature is going to struggle in rubbly ground. Pins struggle too and they're getting a sledge or lump hammer's worth of force going straight down their axis. A screw just isn't going to have much force being applied at the rubble so I think it would be difficult. Probably best to have both at your disposal.

Those spirafix anchors look great :)

Someone said that really good large Rond anchors may be available on the continent - that would be interesting to know about as wr regularly go to France by car and I'd love a couple of big heavy rond anchors for my barge :)

£73.50 inc vat and delivery for 4 of the 40mm type 500mm long suitable for 15m barge. I'd use 4 in a spring line configuration with 50mm ratchet straps holding one each end. For security

Not bad really - interesting item.
