Plastic vs copper pipework

When I use to do electrical installations using pvc conduit back in 1968 the couplings were made to be welded at one end but double lengthed slip the other to allow the pipe to expand

Makes perfect sense but I had no idea

 

I’d have probably found the slip end, tutted, and mumbled some comment about shoddy workmen
